CHAPTER 28 ~ The Gatehouse ~ The next morning Alexis is sitting downstairs on the couch. She�s wearing a long black oversized t-shirt and a pair of Ned�s sweats. She�s so into staring at the pictures Dr. Newman gave her that she didn�t even hear Ned come down the stairs. Ned picked up the blanket off the back of the rocking chair and made his way over to her. He placed the blanket over her legs and sat down next to her. Alexis picked up his arm and placed it over her head allowing her to place the back of her head against his chest. �So is the idea starting to sink in or what?� Ned asked Alexis smiled. �I�m not sure yet.� �You know it�s going to be okay.� He replied as he kissed the top of her head. Alexis continued to stare at the pictures. �How is it that two people who never even talked about having children are now having not one............. but two children?� �It�s not going to be as bad as you think.� Alexis moved her body slightly so she could look at him. �Neither one of us no the first thing about being parents.� Ned closed his eyes clearly hurt by her words. She kissed his lips lightly. �I�m sorry Ned I didn�t mean that. You�re a wonderful father to Brooke.� Ned shook his head. �You and I both know that�s not true.� Alexis laid her head back on his chest. �Brooke thinks you�re the best and that�s all the proof you need.� Ned laid his head against hers. �I wasn�t even there when she was born, when she began to roll over or crawl.� He took a deep breath. �When she took her first step or got her first tooth....or when she.......� Alexis turned and Kissed him cutting off the words that were as hard for him to say as they were for her to hear. Alexis broke the kiss. �You�re going to be here for every step of our children�s life.� She rubbed the side of his face. �I know it won�t make up for missing out on so much with Brooke.� She took his hand and put it on her stomach. �But together the four of us are going to experience so many first�s.� Ned placed his head back against her head. �I love you Alexis.� There door bell rang. �I love you too Ned. � She replied. They both ignored the bell as he brought his lips to hers and they kissed. Ned broke the kiss and looked into her eyes. He mouthed �thank you� before once again over taking her mouth with his. �Ned Ashton you open this door at once.� Edward yelled from outside. The moment was quickly broken by the tone of his voice. Ned got up off the couch and walked over to the door. �I�m coming hold on.� Ned yelled Ned opened the door and Edward walked in. Alexis quickly pulled the blanket high over her body and placed a pillow on her lap, hugging it tightly. Edward looked over at Alexis. �Don�t you two ever get tried mauling each other?� �Grandfather why don�t you just tell us what it is you want?� Edward stared at Alexis. �I�d like to speak to my grandson alone!� �Alexis isn�t going anywhere!� Edward threw his hands up in the air in disgust. He then walked over and got into Ned�s face. �Why did you let Emily marry that Cassidine boy!� �Grandfather it�s over and done with. So why don�t you just give it up and except the fact.� �Except the fact!� He yelled. �You won�t me to just open my arms and allow my granddaughter to think it�s okay to marry a Cassidine and bring a half breed into this family!� �That�s enough old man!� Ned yelled at the top of his lungs. Both Edward and Alexis were taken back a little by Ned�s outburst. Edward was about to say something stupid in his defense as Emily and Nikolas cheerfully walked in. �Hey guys sorry we�re late.� Emily stated. �Don�t worry as promised I still brought breakfast.� Nikolas added Both Emily and Nikolas enthusiasm fell short when they noticed Edward standing there madder then hell. �Um hello grandfather.� Emily said while Nikolas placed a protective arm around her. Ned walked over and took the bags from Nikolas. �Don�t worry he isn�t staying.� Edward walked over to Nikolas. �So young man would like to explain to me why I shouldn�t have you arrested for kidnapping?� �Grandfather Nikolas didn�t kidnap me......I went willingly.� Emily yelled Ned walked over and sat down next to Alexis. �Emily is my wife and I love her Mr. Quatermaine......I promise you I�ll never hurt her.� Nikolas exclaimed. �Never hurt her!� Edward yelled. �Then what the hell do you call getting a seventeen year old innocent girl pregnant?� Nikolas tried his hardest to remain calm. �I know the timing isn�t the best thing..........but we will love this baby just as much as if we waited a few more years.� �Years!� Edward bellowed. �No amount of years can make me except a half Cassidine baby into my family?� �You are such a hypocrite!� Emily yelled �And just what is that suppose to mean young lady?� Edward asked Emily got right up into Edwards face. �You yell at me for bringing a half Cassidine baby into this family every chance you get.....You yell at Nikolas for getting me pregnant.......but yet you have no problem with Ned getting Alexis pregnant!� Edwards face quickly turned to one of outrage. Nikolas realized at that point Edward didn�t know anything about Alexis being pregnant. Nikolas walked up to Emily and gently pulled her back and held her close. Alexis buried her face into Ned�s shoulder as he held her tight. Edward turned around and looked over at them. �What!� He yelled so loud you could have sworn every glass in the house broke. Ned quickly jumped off the couch. �We are not going to do this now!� �The hell we aren�t!� Edward bellowed. �Oh my god Alexis I am so sorry!� Emily repeatedly replied. �I just figured you would have told the family by now.� �Truth be told, we have been purposely avoiding the family until we had no other choice but to tell them.� Ned stated. �Kinda like after they graduated.....� Alexis added �They!� Edward yelled Ned turned around and gave Alexis a kind of nice one honey look. �Yes grandfather they.� Ned replied as he walked over and picked up Alexis� hand. �Alexis and i just found out yesterday that we�re having twins.� Edward placed his hand over his heart and seemed to be having trouble breathing. Emily and Nikolas both ran past him and gave Alexis and Ned a big hug. �Twins you�re really having twins!� An overly excited Emily stated. �Better you then me.� Nikolas joked to Ned Ned looked over at Edward and noticed he had lost all color in his face. Quickly he ran over to him. �Grandfather are you okay?� He helped him into a chair. �Nikolas call 911!� �What�s the matter with him?� Emily asked as she rushed over to his side. �He�s having a heart attack.� Ned explained as he loosened his tie and began unbuttoning his shirt. ~*~ ~General Hospital Emergency Room ~ Ned, Alexis, Emily and Nikolas are all in the waiting room waiting on news of Edward. �Do you think maybe we should call you�re grandmother?� Alexis asked �No I don�t want to worry her just yet.� Ned replied Nikolas looked over at Emily. She was half asleep lying across his lap. �Maybe you should take her home.� Said Ned Emily sat up. �No I want to stay and make sure everything�s alright with grandfather.� Nikolas got up. �Why don�t I have the nurse call upstairs and see if Dr. Newman came see you a little earlier then planned since we�re already here.� Emily nodded and Nikolas walked off. Alexis who was sitting on the couch watched as Ned impatiently paced back and forth across a small path. Emily got up and walked over to him placing her arms around his neck. �He�s to bullheaded to die.� Ned smiled slightly. �Yea I�m sure he�ll live long enough to torture our kids as much as he did us as well as his own.� Nikolas walked back over. �She said we can come right up.� Emily kissed Ned goodbye. She then walked over picked up her coat and headed for the elevator hand in hand with Nikolas. ~*~ About 45 minutes had gone by and they still haven�t heard much about how Edward was doing. Monica stopped by earlier and told them that he did indeed have a small heart attack and he�s hook up to a few machines so they could monitor him better but that was about it. Ned decided to go ahead and call his grandmother and Nikolas and Emily returned from the doctor with an excellent report. All that was left to do at this point was just sit, wait and hope for the best. ~*~ ~ Cottage Later that Night ~ Nikolas and Emily are snuggled up on the couch under a warm blanket. �I can�t believe he had a heart attack just like that.� Emily stated breaking the silence. Nikolas ran his fingers through her hair. �At least we know he�s going to be okay.� �I know mom said he could go home tomorrow but I�d like to go see him first thing in the morning.� �As long as you promise to take it easy.� Nikolas replied Emily kissed his cheek. �Dr. Newman said the baby is doing just fine.� �And I�d like to keep it that way.� Emily laughed. �I still can�t get over the fact that Ned and Alexis are having twins.� �I still can�t get over the fact that nobody even knew she was pregnant.� Emily gave him a strange look. �Why not? I mean they were in Greece for almost a month....she� been wearing baggy clothes.....she usually does most of her work from home anyway.........and � �Okay you�re right I see you�re point.� He said before kissing her. Emily broke the kiss. �I was just thinking if Grandfather took the news of Alexis being pregnant this bad, how do you think you�re uncle reacted?� �Who said she even told him?� Nikolas shot back. ~*~ ~ The Gatehouse ~ Ned is sitting in front of the fireplace messing with his guitar. Alexis walks out of the kitchen carrying a bowl full of popcorn and sits down next to him. �Working on a new song?� �Not really.� She puts a piece of popcorn in his mouth. �Were you waiting for me to come back in so you can serenade me?� He kissed the top of her forehead. �I was thinking about Grandfather actually.� �And how much he loves Eddie Maine?� She cautiously asked. �Just the opposite.� He placed more popcorn in his mouth. �More like how much did Eddie Maine result in his heart attack.� �Edwards heart attack come more along the lines of Ned Ashton getting a backstabbing good for nothing Cassidine pregnant.� Ned placed his guitar next to him, and placed his hand on her face. �I don�t want to ever hear you talk about yourself that way.� �Don�t worry it�s only you�re grandfather who sees me like that.� �Still I don�t want to hear it from him let alone you.� He kissed the top of her head and left his lips there. �For some reason hearing those words come out of your mouth hurt worse then hearing them out of his.� Alexis closed her eyes. �I love you Ned Ashton.� He picked his head up and looked at her. He took his one hand and placed it under her chin. Pulling her lips to his they shared a touching embrace. |
