CHAPTER 34 �Lucky!� Nikolas yelled as the beam hit Lucky in the head and knocked him out. �We�re going to get out of here.� Ned told Alexis as he held her in his arms. �Lucky� out cold and I can�t get him to wake up.� Nikolas screamed over to Ned. �Nikolas you�re going to have to place him over your shoulder and carry him out.� �What about Alexis?� �Don�t worry about her, just get him out of here, we�re fine.� Nikolas grabbed the blanket and through it over his one shoulder as he picked Lucky up and threw him over his other shoulder. He placed the blanket more around his brother more then he did himself as he ran through the flames and out the door. Ned and Alexis however where still in danger. Ned didn�t tell Nikolas that one of Alexis legs were still stuck under a book shelf that fall at the same time the beam hit Lucky. Ned gently placed Alexis� head down as she screamed in pain. He looked down at her and prayed to god that he could take her place. He had to figure out someway of getting her out of there and soon before it was too late. He looked around the room but couldn�t see much through the smoke so he bent down next to Alexis. �Alexis sweetheart I�m going to try and pull you out and when I do I need you to try your hardest to get free.� Alexis began to panic as she noticed the hopelessness over take his face. �We�re going to die in here aren�t we?� �Nobodies going to die!� He yelled back at her. �Ned you can�t get me out of here save yourself please��our children need you.� �Our children need you as well and I�m not leaving here without you. Now I need you to help me.� He yelled. ~*~*~*~*~*~* Meanwhile outside Nikolas placed Lucky far enough away from the building so that he�d be safe. As he looked down on his unconscious brother he looked back over to the building. �Where the hell are they?� He asked out loud. �They should have been out of there by now.� Nikolas couldn�t wait any longer so he got up and was about to re-enter the building when the fire trucks arrived and a firefighter stopped him. �I can�t let you go in there.� The firefighter said. �My Aunt and her husband are in there I need to help them.� �That�s what we�re here for.� He said. �Are they the only two people in the building?� �Yes it�s just the two of them.� Nikolas replied as a paramedic walked over to them. �Check this man out.� The firefighter yelled. �My brother he�s lying over there on the ground he needs help.� Nikolas yelled as he ran over to him. As the paramedics took care of Lucky Nikolas watch helplessly as the firefighters tired to put out the burning building and rescue Ned and Alexis. After several minutes a firefighter came out of the building. He was alone and Nikolas feared the worst. �Where are they?� �I couldn�t find anyone.� �What do you mean you couldn�t find them, I just left them and they were right there.� �The remainder of the second floor along with the roof collapsed.� The firefighter said. �If anyone was in there they didn�t make it, I�m sorry.� �NO!!!!!� Nikolas yelled as he ran towards the building only to be held back by two police officers. �They can�t be dead!!!!!� He yelled as he fell to the ground. ~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Several hours pasted and the fire was completely put out, there were no signs of survivors as the firefighters entered the building and looked around. Mac and Taggert arrived on the scene to find Nikolas in complete shock staring over at the building. Mac went over to check on him and Taggert went into what was left of L&B. Taggert looked around and noticed something out of place under a piece of wood that was threatening to re-ignite. He walked over to it and picked it up carefully and placed it inside a plastic bag. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Emily came running through the ER doors in her pajamas after getting the call that her husband was seriously hurt in a fire. Monica who was called in to consult on Lucky� progress noticed her daughter and quickly ran over to her. �Please tell me he isn�t dead�.please mom.� Emily begged. �Emily he�s not dead and we are doing everything possible to save him. You need to calm down and think about your baby.� �What happened, where was he?� �All I know is that the fire was at L&B.� �L&B oh my god mom was anyone else hurt, what about Ned or Alexis, or�.� Emily trailed off as Monica held her tight. �I don�t know baby.� Monica replied fearing the unknown. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Back at L&B Mac and Nikolas are talking when Taggert comes up to them from behind. �Mac take a look at this.� Taggert stated. �Is that what I think it is?� Mac asked �I think so.� Taggert replied. �I�m going to have sent to lab and make sure.� �What is it?� Nikolas asked as Taggert walked away. Mac looked at him and paused for a second before answering him. �It looks like part of a timing device.� �Meaning?� Nikolas demanded to know. �Meaning that the building was deliberately set on fire.� �You mean someone set a bomb in there?� A shock Nikolas asked. �It�s a possibility, we won�t know for sure until tomorrow.� �Help me please somebody help us.� A voice yelled in the distance. ~*~**~*~*~*~*~ Back at General hospital Monica was trying to calm her daughter when a firefighter who was hurt on the scene was wheeled in. Monica and Emily got up and walked over to him. �Do you know if there was anyone else hurt in the fire besides Lucky Spencer?� Monica asked. �I�m sorry but there were two people who didn�t make it.� He replied. �Do you have any idea who they were?� Monica asked as her heart nearly skipped a beat. �Yes I believe one was the owner.� �No oh no not Ned!� Emily screamed as Monica held her tight. �And I heard someone say the other woman was his wife.� Emily screamed even louder as she hit the floor taking Monica with her. Alan and Edward just stepped off the elevator as they heard the Firefighter say and the woman was his wife. Edward stopped walking and Alan ran over and grabbed a hold of his wife and daughter. He picked them up off the floor and slowly walked them over to an empty room. Edward thought twice before opening his cell phone and calling his daughter. He still didn�t know Ned didn�t survive but figured Tracy for some unknown reason should be there for her son. As Edward dialed the hotel Bobbie walked over to him. Tracy answered the phone and said hello the same time Bobbie spoke. �I�m sorry to hear about Ned and Alexis they were way to young to have died!� �Hello!� Tracy yelled into the phone as Edward began to cry. �I heard that Alexis didn�t make it but they never said anything about Ned.� Edward said to Bobbie not realizing Tracy could hear him. �Father what�s going on, what�s happening?� Tracy yelled. �From what I heard the fire was just spreading to fast and there was no way they were able to get out.� �My grandson is dead.� Edward said as he dropped the phone and grabbed his heart. �I need some help over here.� Bobbie yelled as Edward� heart gave out on him. �Daddy, daddy what�s happening!� Tracy yelled. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Nikolas and Mac along with the rest of the men left at the scene turned and looked around as they spotted a man carrying a woman coming out from behind the building. �Ned!� Nikolas yelled as he ran over to them. �Get those people some help.� Mac hollered to the paramedics. Nikolas took Alexis from Ned� arms as he could no longer hold himself up and he fell to the ground. Alexis opened her eyes and look up at Nikolas as she smiled slightly before once again closing them. A paramedic took her from him and they carefully placed her on a stretcher and place an oxygen mask over her face. Another paramedic caught Ned on his way down and placed an oxygen mask on him as well. They started to put him on a stretcher as well but he refused. �I�m going in the ambulance with my wife.� He demanded. �Ned you need to lye down and take it easy.� Nikolas said. �I�ll go with Alexis you just take care of yourself. �Nikolas I�ll get all the rest I need when I�m dead. Right now the only thing I need more then anything is to be with Alexis.� �No sense fighting with him.� Mac said. �Let him go with his wife, after everything they�ve been through tonight it�s the least they deserve.� ~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Twenty minutes later Tracy came running into the ER, she came across Alan and ran over to him. �What going on?� �There was a fire at L&B tonight and Nikolas Cassidine, Lucky Spencer, and Ned and Alexis were all caught in it.� Alan replied. �What they were there when the building blew up?� Tracy said. �Is everyone okay?� �Lucky was brought into the ER a few hours ago and is in surgery. I don�t know much about his condition just yet.� �Is he going to make it?� �Like I said I don�t know much about what�s happening to him.� �What about Ned and Alexis, where are they?� Alan looked at her and took her hand; he walked over to the waiting room with her and had her sit down. �Its bad isn�t it?� Tracy asked. �Ned� in surgery as well isn�t he?� �Tracy Ned never came out of the building, he was pronounced dead on the scene.� Tracy didn�t say anything as Alan placed his arm around her. She pushed it off of him and got up. �What about Alexis, where is she I need to see her?� �Ned and Alexis were together when the building completely collapsed.� �You�re telling me she didn�t make it either?� Alan didn�t say a word as Tracy looked him in the eyes and walked away. She tried to maintain her composure as she entered the elevator; she looked at her brother and closed her eyes as the elevator doors shut. She slowly sunk to the floor and began to cry uncontrollable over the death of her son, daughter in-law and their unborn child, as well as the guilt she felt. ~*~**~*~*~*~*~~* Monica walked over to Alan and placed a hand on his back. �Are you okay?� She asked. �Father thought the world of Ned.� Alan replied. �Ned Ashton was the son father always wanted.� �It was only a mild heart attack Alan he�s going to be okay.� �Is he?� Alan asked as he faced her. �Is he ever going to recover from losing the one person other then mother who he depended on and loved unconditionally.� �Alan how can you say that, Ned and Edward are always at odds with one another?� �Come on Monica you know it as well as I do. Ned Ashton is the only thing that keeps my father going. If it wasn�t for Ned ELQ wouldn�t even exist.� Monica was about to say something as the ER doors opened and the wheeled in a woman on a stretcher. �Alexis.� Monica yelled as the paramedics rambled off her condition. �Monica please you can�t let her die.� Ned yelled as he ran in behind them. �They told us you didn�t make it.� Alan stated as he hugged Ned. �Trust me Alan we almost didn�t.� Ned shot back. Monica had Alexis immediately taken into a room as she went and took care of her. Ned was slowly losing it as Alan made him sit down. Nikolas came running in a few minutes later. He ran over to Ned and the two of them just sat there and waited to hear the worst. �The two of you really need to be seen by a doctor.� Alan said. �I�m not going anywhere until I know that Alexis is going to make it.� Ned replied. �Ned you�ve taken in a lot of smoke and��� Alan began to say as Ned cut him off. �My child died tonight, I�m not losing my wife as well.� �Ned I�m sorry about the baby but Alexis is hurt pretty bad and she needs her rest. You can�t help her unless you�re strong enough to do so.� �Nikolas thank god you�re okay.� Stefan stated in a very emotional way as he grabbed Nikolas and embraced him in a huge hug. �Have you seen a doctor yet?� �I�m trying to convince the both of them to do so as we speak.� Alan replied. �The both of them.� Stefan began to say as he noticed Ned sitting there. �The officer who came to the house told me that both you and Alexis were dead.� He added as he approached him. �At the last minute Alexis and I worked together and we were able to get her free.� Ned replies remembering the night�s occurrences. �I picked her up and headed for the front door but it was to late, so I decided to go back down. Luckily the window that I crawled out of earlier was still easy to get to. It�s like god was watching over us, the flames surrounded the rest of the room, but the section of the room where the window was, was clear of the flames. I climbed up and carefully threw Alexis through the window. I don�t now how I did it but I managed to get us both out of that building just before the entire thing came crashing down.� �Why didn�t you let us know you were okay as soon as you got out of the building?� Nikolas asked. �I tried.� Ned replied. �I picked Alexis up and started walking to what I thought was the front of the building. After I went a few feet I realized I must be going the wrong way, but it was to late. I paused out and we fell to the ground. I remember hearing voices around me but I couldn�t speak. I wanted to yell out we�re here help us but I couldn�t.� �You saved her Ned and that�s all that matters.� Nikolas replied. �The next thing I know the fires out and Alexis and I were just lying there. That�s when I once again picked her up and followed the voices.� �Excuse me Mr. Ashton.� A doctor said as he rounded the corner. �Yes that�s me.� Ned replied. �I�m so sorry for your loss.� He said. �Lose?� Stefan asked. �The baby didn�t make it.� Nikolas said. �I wasn�t aware my sister was pregnant again.� �How is she?� Ned asked. �Can I see her?� �She�s doing remarkable well.� The doctor replied. �She�s week and will be sore for quit some time but you can see her.� �I take it she knows about the baby?� Ned asked. �She probably knew before you did.� The doctor answered. ~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Tracy walked into her hotel room and grabbed the first bottle she saw she didn�t really care much what it was as she opened the bottle and began downing it. So many terrible thoughts came rushing through her mind, as she couldn�t live with the guilt she was feeling she hated herself more then words could ever say. She came to town to help her son remember the path he was born to live not kill him in the wrongful path he had chosen. She finished what was left he the bottle she was holding and slammed it across the room as she picked up another bottle and began downing it, still not caring what it was. Her life was meaningless -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 35 �Jasper Jack� open this door right now!� Julia screamed as she banged on his penthouse door. Jax who was upstairs sleeping grab his robe and headed for the door. �Julia calm down will ya.� He said as he opened the door. �Do you have any idea what time it is?� Julia ran past him and spun around. �Do you have any idea what your slut of a girlfriend has been up to?� �At this hour of the night.� He replied as he looked at his watch. �Or should I say morning she�s probably doing what I was just doing and frankly what you should be doing���sleeping!� �She�s slowly trying to take away my company, and leave me what absolutely nothing.� �Alexis?� �Yes your precious little Alexis is trying to destroy Barrett Industries.� �Well good for her.� Jax laughed. �Jax this isn�t funny!� Julia screamed at him. �No you�re right it isn�t.� He replied through laughter. �I just didn�t know Alexis could be so revengeful. I mean I knew she could be ruthless and all she�s one hell of a lawyer, but to actually go after someone like you I�d never see it coming. Are you sure we�re talking about Alexis?� �Yes we are,� She shot back in annoyance. �I have all the proof I need right here.� Jax took the file from her and looked it over. �This information wasn�t that hard to get?� �Of course not. I have very reliable people working for me and they know how to get things done.� �I hate to tell you this Julia but you�ve been had.� Jax replied as he handed her back the file. �What�s that suppose to mean?� �That means that the information you have in front of you was only found out because she wanted you to know it.� �You mean to tell me Alexis wants me to know that she behind everything?� �Yep!� Jax replied as his phone rang. �Who the hell can that be?� �Maybe it�s your lover�� now setting you up for a fall!� Julia sarcastically replied. �This better be good!� Jax yelled into the phone. �Sorry to bother you so earlier Mr. Jacks but this is hotel management and I wanted to make sure everything was alright. I just received several calls about a disturbance in the Penthouse.� Jax turned and looked at Julia. �I�m fine and the problem has been rectified.� �I�m also sorry to hear about you�re ex-wife.� �What about my ex-wife?� Jax replied. �You haven�t heard?� �Heard what?� Jax asked as he began to panic �It�s all over the news that Mr. and Mrs. Ashton were killed tonight in a fire.� Jax just stood there clinging onto the phone. This wasn�t happening he thought to himself as Julia approached him. �Jax what is it? What happened?� Jax hung up the phone and slowly turned towards the stairs. He looked over at Julia before he started to descend them. �You won�t have to worry about Alexis coming after you anymore. She was killed in a fire tonight along with Ned.� -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ned and Alexis are sitting on the bed holding one another in total darkness. Neither one of them have spoke a word since Ned entered the room earlier that night. He lends down and places his lips on her head she looks up at him and then takes her head and presses it against his chest. He runs his fingers through her hair as she places her hand on her stomach. Would you know my name If I saw you in heaven Would it be the same If I saw you in heaven Jax walked into Alexis� old room and ran his hand across the bed. His eyes filled with water as the tears came pouring down. He dropped to his knees and held them tight as memories of him and Alexis flooded his mind. I must be strong and carry on Cause I know I don�t belong here in heaven Tracy lays there on her bathroom floor, lifeless. She must have hit the bathroom mirror with her hand before she fell as glass surrounded her body and blood fell from her hand. Would you hold my hand If I saw you in heaven V walked down the living room stairs she sat down on the couch and turned on the news. She couldn�t sleep and she knew the perfect cure for that, CNN. But unbeknown to her what she was about to watch would change her life forever. Would you help me stand If I saw you in heaven Stefan stood outside the grounds of Wyndamere and looked out over the water. He never felt so sorry for his sister as he did right now. Even after everything his Mother and their family put her through she managed to survive��. but losing a child a part of her�� he didn�t think she would ever be able to over come it. He looked up at the sky and did something that only Alexis would do in a time like this. Something he never envisioned himself ever doing��. he preyed. I�ll find my way Through night and day Cause I know I just can�t stay Here in heaven Emily stood outside Lucky� room and watched him from behind the glass. He looked so peaceful, almost too peaceful. She thought to herself as she placed her hand over her stomach and preyed that her husband would soon wake up. The tears rolled from her eyes as Nikolas walked up to her and placed his arm around her. The two of them just stood there a minute before Emily looked up at him and he embraced her. Time can bring ya down Time can bend your knees Kristin sits up in her bed and screams out in terror for her mommy and daddy. V comes running upstairs with tears in her eyes and rocks the poor child back to sleep. Time can break your heart Have you beg and plead Beg and plead Julia went down to her room and slowly slid her body down the door. Ned was gone and she couldn�t believe it, worse yet she couldn�t except it. She got up and walked over to the TV. She turned it on and flipped through the channels, she stopped when she saw what once was L&B Studios. Beyond the door There�s peace I�m sure And I know They�ll be no more Tears in heaven Edward finally opened his eyes and looked around the cold dark walls of a hospital room. He still had no idea that both his grandson Ned and Alexis were alive. He just lies there helpless and alone as the tears begin to shed from his eyes one by one. His whole life was a complete mess and he let the one person he promised he never would��. down. A teary eyed Ned walked over to her and brushed a few strains of hair off her cheek before lightly pressing his lips against it. He closed his eyes and turned to leave as she opened her eyes and grabbed his arm. He looked down at her and half heartily smiled. Their eyes caught one another�s and they instantly knew what the other was thinking. Yet words were still never spoken and tears from her eyes had yet to fall. I must be strong And carry on Cause I know I don�t belong Here in heaven -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About a half-hour later Jax went looking for Tracy, he knew she must be devastated over losing her son. He stood outside her door and knocked several times but got no answer. Finally after seeing no other way he pulled a credit card out from his pocket and began picking the lock. �Tracy, Tracy where are you?� He yelled as he looked around the room. Her things were scattered everywhere and he almost tripped over a broken lamp lying on the floor. He continued to call out her name as he picked the lamp up and headed for her bedroom. He looked over his left shoulder and noticed the bathroom light was on. He quickly made his way over and was shocked by what he saw. Jax reached down and grabbed her wrist. �Thank god you still have a pulse.� He replied out loudly as he pulled out his cell phone and called 911. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- �Are you hungry?� Ned asked Alexis as he walked into her room. �Smells good.� Alexis quietly stated �That�s because I got it across the street, and I just happen to know it�s you�re favorite.� �I don�t feel much like eating.� Ned placed the bag of food he was carrying down on a near by table. �Well it will be right here when you want it.� Alexis looked over at him and smiled. �Thanks,� She replied as she turned her head and looked out the window. Ned walked over to her and sat down on the edge of the bed. �How are your legs feeling?� �They�re a little soar but the doctor say there�s nothing to worry about.� She replied as she continued to look out the window. Ned rubbed his hand up and down her right leg. �Is there any thing I can get you?� �No.� Alexis replied as she looked at him. �But there is something you can do for me.� �You name it and I�ll take care of it.� �You can go home and check on the kids.� Ned walked over and picked up the phone. �How bout I just call V and let her know everything�s all right? This way I can stay here with you.� Alexis put her hand over his. �I�d rather be alone.� Ned hung up the phone. �Are you sure that�s what you really want?� �No, but it�s what I need.� �Okay.� He lovingly stated as he lends down and kisses her cheek. �But if you need me I want you to call me right away.� �I promise I will.� �I love you Mrs. Ashton.� �Right back at you.� Alexis replied as Ned closed the door. Alexis flung her legs over the side of the bed and bit her bottom lip as she silently screamed in pain. It took all the energy she could muster just to sit up, but she was determined. She carefully managed to make her way over to the window. She lends her body against the wall to take the pressure off her legs as she just stood there and stared out the window. Her emotions slowly getting the better of her along with the physical pain, as her body could no longer take it she slid to the ground. �The physical pain may beat me but the emotional one won�t� She said to herself as she sat there and held back the tears from falling. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ned stood outside Edward� door and took a deep breath before walking in. �So old man what did you plan on doing?� Ned replied as he walked over to him. �Meeting me in hell?� Edward couldn�t believe what he was seeing and he grabbed his chest. �Oh no sorry there�s a quota around here that says something about only one heart attack per visit.� Ned jokingly said as he gave his Grandfather a hug. �They told me you and Alexis��� Edward began to say. �They told you we did but nobody told you we didn�t, why shouldn�t I be surprised.� Ned replied. �I guess what they say is true.� �And what�s that?� �Good news does travel faster then bad.� Ned joked. �And Alexis?� Edward asked. Ned looked away from him for a moment. �She�s just down the hall.� �Then she�s okay.� �Physical she should be out of here in a couple of days.� �And you?� �Me. Well they wanted to admit me but I wouldn�t let them.� �Why not?� �Because I need to be with Alexis.� Ned stated. �She lost the baby.� �Then why aren�t you with her now?� Edward asked �Because she wanted me to go home and check on the kids.� �Then get the hell out of here, will ya.� Ned laughed slightly. �You know you�re something else Grandfather.� �Make sure you tell those kids of yours that there grandparents love them!� �I will.� Ned shot back as he closed the door behind him. �Ned thank god I found you!� Monica said as she ran up to him. �Is it Alexis, is something wrong?� Ned asked half scared to death. Monica took Ned� hands in hers. �No Ned Alexis is fine, it�s Tracy.� �Mother.� Ned replied thankfully. �What about her?� �Jax just brought her in.� �And she�s looking for me��.� Monica cut him off. �Ned she tried to kill herself tonight.� �Is she still alive?� �Barely.� Monica stated. �I need to get home and check on Kristin and Tommy, if anything happens will you call me?� �You�re not even going to look in on her before you go?� �No.� was all he said as he walked off. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- �Where�s Mommy and Daddy?� Kristin asked a crying V. V wiped her eyes and turned around. �I didn�t hear you come down the stairs.� �Daddy always makes us breakfast before we go to school.� �Well what do you say I make breakfast this morning.� �Do we have to eat it?� Rachel asked as she came down the stairs with Tommy. �I happen to make real good fried eggs missy.� V said to her daughter. �I like the way Daddy makes them.� Kristin said. �Look there�s a picture of your mommy and daddy on TV.� Rachel yelled as she pointed to the television. �What are they saying, I can�t hear it.� Kristin yelled as she ran over and turned up the volume. �Kristin sweetie, No.� V screamed as the report began to speak. �The town is in and uproar this morning as two members of prominent families are mourned.� The reporter states. �What�s promoment mean?� Rachel asked. �It�s prominent.� Kristin shot back. �And it means rich.� Lawrence Ashton also widely known as Ned Ashton to the corporate world and to many fans as Eddie Maine died late last night in a terrible fire. Word has it that he died trying to save his wife of six years Attorney at law Alexis Davis Ashton. Mr. and Mrs. Ashton leave behind two children ages three and six. It�s also been reported that Mr. Ashton also has an eleven-year-old daughter from a previous marriage. �Mommy and Daddy are dead?� A crying Kristin screamed. V walked over to the child. �Sweetie everything�s going to be fine.� �Daddy promised he�d never leave us again and not only did he break his promise but he took mommy with him.� She screamed as she ran up the stairs. �Ned and Alexis aren�t coming back just like Daddy never came back, right?� Rachel asked. V didn�t know what to do or say, as she stood there with her daughter starring up at her. Tommy ran over to the TV and changed the channel he at least was to young to understand what was going on and V was grateful. As V thought carefully about what her next move should be, Kristin was throwing all the clothes that would fit into a small bag. �I hate them, I hate them, I hate them, I hate them.� Kristin yelled over and over again each time louder then the next. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ned who was oblivious to the fact that most of the world including his children thought he was dead stopped by L&B on his way home. He got out of the car and walk over to the yellow tape that surrounded the remains of a building. The air was still thick with gray smoke and the fumes still heavily polluted it. He covered his mouth with his shirt as he ducked under the tape. The boards crunch beneath his feet as he walked further inside. He couldn�t believe that in a matter of minutes he lost his business his unborn child and almost his wife along with his life. Ned lowered his body and placed his hands on his knees as he tried to take it all in. Several minutes had passed and he noticed something shiny off in the distance.
