Chapter 22 It�s around 3o�clock in the morning and Ned is sitting in the chair across from Kristin watching her sleep. All he keeps thinking about is how much he loves that little girl and the night she was born. ****Flashback**** Doctor: Okay Alexis one more push and I think that will do it Alexis: I don't think I have enough strength to push anymore. Ned: Come on Honey you can do it just squeeze my hand really hard and push. Alexis: (pushing) Oh God this hurts. Doctor: well congratulations it's a girl. Alexis and Ned hug as the baby begins to cry. Ned: You did it, we've got ourselves a little girl. Alexis: Can I hold her? Doctor: Yes just a soon as her daddy comes over here and cuts the cord. Ned cuts the cord and the doctor hands him his little girl. Ned walks over to Alexis and places their daughter in her arms. Alexis: She's beautiful. Ned: Of course she is, she takes after her mother. ***End flashback*** Ned gets up and walks over to his daughter and sits down on the coffee table in front of her. �I�ll never forget the first time I held you in my arms, it was like a part of me that I didn�t even know I had, opened up. I love you so much.� He quietly told her as she slept and he thought back to the first time he walked into Alexis� room and found Kristin sleeping in her arms. ****Flashback*** Ned walks into Alexis' room to find her and the baby lying together in the bed sound asleep. Ned walks over to them and sits down quietly in the chair next to them. Alexis: Where have you been? Ned; I thought you were sleeping? Alexis: No just resting my eyes and holding our daughter. Ned; you don't know how lovely the two of you looked when I walked through that door. Alexis: (blushing) I love you. Ned; I love you too. (They kiss) God she's so tiny. Alexis: Would you like to hold her? Ned: No that's okay she looks perfectly comfortable lying with her mommy, besides I've got a better idea. Ned climbs up into bed with her and holds them both. Alexis; I like your idea better. (They kiss) ~~Later on that night ~~ Ned and Alexis are lying in bed talking while she breast-feeds the baby. Ned: Well she seems content. Alexis: that she does. So now that we know Brooke's okay what do you say we give our baby girl a name. Ned: Sounds good to me. Did you have any names in mind? Alexis: Well if you don't mind I'd like to name her after my Mother. Ned: Kristin Ashton .........I like that. Alexis: Actually I was thinking more on the lines of Kristin Lila Ashton. Ned; My Grandmother would be honored, and I love it. (They kiss) ***End Flashback*** Ned wipes the tears from his eyes as he leans down and gives her a kiss on the forehead and heads upstairs. He walks over to his bedroom door and looks in on his wife sound asleep. She looks so beautiful just lying there all curled up in a ball. He stands there and stares at her for a while before slowly walking over and sitting on the edge of their bed. He wipes the hair from her face and leans down and kisses her cheek lightly as to not wake her. She stirs slightly and half opens her one eye to look up at him for a second before closing it again. "I didn�t mean to wake you." He said rubbing the side of her face. "That�s okay, what time is it?" She asked with her eyes still closed. "It�s about 3, 3:30." "Then how come you�re not sleeping?" He leans down and kisses her on the cheek again. "Because I can�t sleep when you�re not in my arms and because I�ve been thinking about Kristin and the fight we had earlier today." Alexis opens her eyes and rolls over on to her back. "So I take it you want to talk about it." "I didn�t come up here to wake you Alexis." She takes his hand. "I know you didn�t, but since we�re both awake now, why don�t we talk about what�s on your mind." "I love you Alexis." He says getting up. "Go back to sleep this can wait till morning." "Oh sure wake me up and then leave me." She says half kidding. "I�m never leaving you." He states in a very serious tone. "Or our children." "Then come back here and talk to me." She says sitting up and resting her back against the headboard. Ned walks over and sits down besides her. "I�m really sorry about a lot of things Alexis. I should have never questioned weather or not Kristin was mine. When I look at that little girl lying downstairs" he takes her hands in his. "I see you and I see me and I see a life time of what we�ve already accomplished and what we have left yet to be explored." He looks deep into her eyes. "Do you know that our daughter is six years old and I�ve never even tried to teach her how to ride a bike." "Well it�s kinda hard to teach someone how to ride a bike in the snow Ned." He laughed at her before bending down and kissing her. "There are so many things I�ve never done with my daughter and I want to. I don�t want some stupid blood test to determine how I feel about that little girl, because I love her and no matter what some test says she�s still my little girl and always will be." "Ned what are you saying?" "I�m saying I don�t want the test done. I know she�s mine and that�s all that matters." He tells her as she looks away. "What is it Alexis I thought you�d be happy about this." She takes a deep breath before looking up at him. "You don�t know how much I wanted you to tell me that you know deep down in your heart, where it matters the most, that Kristin Lila Ashton is your daughter. Is our child, and not a product of some affair you think Jax and I are having." "I believe that�s what I just said Alexis." "Yea well it�s just a little to late Ned. I�m still going threw with it, I�m going to make arrangements first thing this morning to have a DNA test done on Kristin." He looks at her confused. "But why Alexis? I told you I believe you, I believe that little girl is and always was mine." "Until when Ned." She shot back. "Until the next time you see Jax and I sitting at a table discussing a business matter and you jump to the wrong conclusion, or until your grandfather makes another stupid remark about Kristin possibly not being yours." Ned grabs her face and makes her look at him. "Sweetheart you need to calm down. I know I can be a real ass and for that I�m sorry, but I promise you I�ll try my hardest not to jump to any conclusions about Jax or let my grandfather get to me." "It�s not good enough Ned. The only thing that is going to make a difference here is a blood test. Because I know you and I know that if I say fine we�ll just drop it and forget the fight ever took place something will happen and you�ll throw it back in my face." "No sweetheart I won�t, I promise you right here and now I will never question Kristin� paternity again. She is my daughter and I do believe that with all my heart." "Don�t make promises you can�t keep Ned." She says getting out of bed and walking over to the window. "You questioned it once you�ll question it again." "I don�t understand Alexis you were the one who didn�t want this test done in the first place." She looks back at him. "You were so mad at me for wanting it done and now you�re telling me it�s the only way." "Yes, I am." "Wait a minute are you now telling me that there is a chance that Jax is her father and that you can�t live with yourself not knowing the truth." "And there you have It." she yelled, "You just proved my point. Thank you very much Ned Ashton. If you don�t understand, why not become offensive." "Aren�t you the one who always said better to take offense rather then just be offended." "Oh right and your motto is nothing works better then sarcasm. You know what Ned there is no point in arguing about this anymore, so why don�t you just go back downstairs and leave me alone." "You want me to leave you alone fine!" He yells as he goes into the closet and pulls out a suitcase. "If I do recall you did tell me not to come home tonight." He throws the suitcase on the bed and starts throwing things in it. "Well since I�m here I hope you don�t mind if a get some of my clothes before I book a room at the Port Charles Hotel." "Ned wait." She says walking over to him and grabbing his arm. "I don�t want you to leave. I just want you to have the blood test done so we can stop this fighting once and for all." "Just call my room at the hotel and let me know when to be there." "Please don�t leave? She asked in a quite tone. "Why not Alexis isn�t this what you want?" "No it�s not." She said sitting down on the bed. "Then what do you want?" "I want you to take the blood test so that we don�t have to do this anymore. Okay yes I know now that you believe Kristin is yours but Ned I know you and if you don�t have it done, there will always be a part of you that thinks, hey maybe she really isn�t mine. And I don�t want that coming back at us years down the line. We have the DNA test run now Kristin won�t know the difference and she�ll never ask questions��.and if we wait" "And if we wait she�ll always know her daddy wasn�t sure if she was really his or not" Ned continued. "Okay fine we�ll run the test and then after the results come back that�s the last we�ll talk about it." "Works for me." She looks down at the suitcase. "Are you still leaving?" He picks up the suitcase and throws it on the chair in the corner of the room. "No I�ll still be here in the morning when my kids get up. Go back to bed, I�ll be downstairs with Kristin if you need me." Ned walked out and closed the door behind him. Alexis walked over to his suitcase and began putting his things back in his drawers as her tears over took her and she began to cry. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Later on that morning Alexis is in her room making some phone calls. First she called the lab to see about having the test run this morning, which was easy because she told them she needed it done as soon as possible do to a custody case she was handling. Then she called Jax. "Hello" Jax answered. "Hi it�s me." "I wasn�t expecting to hear from you this early in the morning. Let me guess Ashton left you and you�re inviting me over for breakfast." "No but nice try. I made arrangements for a DNA test to be ran on Kristina at 11:00 o�clock today can you make it?" "Well first of all counslor I never agreed to a blood test." Yea well Jax you owe me, after all it was your comment that made this all possible." "I do recall telling you I�m sorry about that." "Yes Jax I know, and now you can make it up to me by giving me some of your blood." "You don�t want much do ya?" he said while laughing. "Will you be there?" she asked. "Yea I�ll be there but I don�t gather I could interest you in lunch afterward?" "Yea wouldn�t that be special. Okay Ned now that we�ve taken the blood test I�m going off to have lunch with the man whom you think might be the father of your child, just call me on my cell phone when you get the results." "Gee Alexis you make it sound like the movie of the week." She laughs. "good bye Jax." She hangs up the phone. "So is he going to be there?" Alexis jumped and spun around at the sound of his voice. "Yes he�ll be there how long have you been standing there?" "Not long." Ned said as he walked into the room. "The kids are eating breakfast so I figured I�d take a quick shower before taking them to the park. What time do we have to be at the lab?" "Um��11:00" she said as he walked into the bathroom. "Fine then I�ll just take them to the park afterward." Alexis looked down at the phone. "that�s sounds like fun why don�t I call Janis and let her know I won�t be in at all today and we�ll all go." Ned stuck his head out the bathroom door. "I thought you had a lunch date." "You know darn well I told Jax I couldn�t have lunch with him." "So then how about having lunch with me and the kids?" he asked. "Now that I can do." She answered back as the phone rang. "Hello." "Where�s my grandson." Edward yelled on the other end. "He�s in the shower." She answered back being just as short with him. "Tell him I need to talk to him now!" "What would you like me to do Edward pull him out of the shower." "Yes damn it!" "Well I could do that but there�s just something about Ned that when he�s all wet and soapy drives me crazy, and trust me by the time I got him out of the shower I don�t think talking to you is going to be high on his list of things to do at the moment." "Tell him to call me as soon as he gets out it�s important." Edward yells as he slams down the phone. "Well it was nice talking to you to Edward." She says as she hangs up the phone. Ned sneaks up behind her and grabs her. "So there�s just something about me all wet and soapy that drives you crazy uh?" "Oh trust me Ashton everything about you drives me crazy." She says as she turns in his arms and kisses him. "Alexis can I ask you something?" "Anything?" "Do you think having this test done is really the right thing to do. I mean I don�t want kristin thinking that I don�t love her." "Ned Kristin isn�t even going to know why the test was done." "What do you plan on telling her?" Ned asked. "I don�t know, but trust me I�ll think of something before we get there." "I do trust you Alexis." He said as kissed her. ^^^^^^^^^^^ "Well good morning Julia what brings you by so early in the day." Jax asked as he opened his penthouse door. "I came here to invite you to breakfast." Julia answered. "Why?" "I just didn�t want to eat alone so I figured I�d ask my good friend Jax to join me. Do you have a problem with that?" "No not at all besides breakfast sounds good I haven�t eaten yet this morning." "Great maybe then we could go ice skating in the park later?" "I can�t." "Why not?" she asked disappointed. "I just can�t that�s all, so are we going to have breakfast Julia or not?" Julia could tell he was hiding something but left it at that. She figured she�d find out what he was up to one way or another. "Well of course we are. She said heading out the door. "That is after all why I came up here." |
