Chapter 9 Ned took Brooke Lynn back to the Gatehouse around nine o'clock. They had had a full day at the park and zoo. She was asleep in his arms when they walked in. "Hi!" Lois said getting off the couch to greet them. "She looks beat." She said rubbing Brooke Lynn's hair. "Yeah. We had a full day and she is out. I'll take her upstairs to bed and then leave." Ned said heading up the stairs. Lois sat back on the couch and waited for Ned to return. When he came back down the stairs she looked at him. "That was nice. You taking our daughter up to bed and me waiting for you to come back. This is all I want Ned." "Lois, this is the last time I am going to tell you this. I don't love you anymore. I am in love with Alexis, we are going to get married this summer. We had a chance to have this and it didn't work out, we tried. I'm sorry, but I am happy that it didn't work out because then I had a chance to find Alexis and fall in love, again." Ned said very sweetly walking over to the couch and sitting down. Lois was crying, "But Ned I love you and I want us to be together. What about that kiss yesterday, you can't tell me it didn't mean anything because I felt it, I know you had to too." Lois said moving in very close to Ned. "Lois, I felt nothing. Only that you are the mother to my little girl. That is all I felt. When I kiss Alexis I don't want to stop, because I love her." "No! We are meant to be together and I will show you Ned Ashton, you just wait." Lois said getting really upset. "Good-bye." Ned said getting up and leaving Lois upset and in tears sitting on the couch. Ned got home to find Alexis on the phone talking about some case. She saw that Ned was upset and ended to call. "What happened?" She asked tenderly. "Oh it is just Lois. I think she is going crazy or something. She told me she was going to prove to me that we belonged together. I try and try to tell her it's over, but she just won't listen." Ned sat down with Alexis on the couch. "I can't take this anymore. She really thinks I will leave you for her. And she keeps using Brooke against me, I love my little girl, but I am not going to get back with her mother, whom I don't love. That isn't healthy. And then the fire. Everything was going so good for me and it just all came tumbling down!" Alexis looked at him with sad eyes, not knowing what to say or do. "Ned maybe I should talk to her." Ned looked at her with a jolt. "What!?!?" "What if I talked to her about us. Maybe hearing it from me will help her understand it. I am not taking no for an answer either. I will go over there tomorrow." They didn't talk about Lois the rest of the night. |
