Karen Grossman is the daughter of Ralph and Therese Grossman. She was born on June 18, 1964, in Anchorage, Alaska. Karen attended Virginia Tech then transferred to Virginia College of Medicine, where she graduated in 1990, with a degree in occupational therapy. Karen met another Virginia Tech student, Douglas Bower, born April 12, 1961. Doug also attended Virginia Tech where he graduated with a degree in computer science in 1983, and a computer science applications degree in 1985. He was in the Corps. of Cadets at Virginia Tech, and currently is a Captain in the Virginia National Guard. Karen and Doug married on December 28, 1985 at All Saints Episcopal Church-Sharon Chapel, in Alexandria, Virginia. The couple currently resides in Mechanicsville, Virginia with their beagle, Cindy. They enjoy hiking, swimming and sleding. Karen also enjoys crafts and reading. Doug likes skiing and playing several musical insruments.
