Joanne Wojcik was
born on August 21, 1957, in Chicago and was baptized Catholic
later that year at St. Paul's Church on the southwest side. She
recieved her First Communion in 1964 and was confirmed in 1969 at
St. Albert the Great Church in Burbank, Illinois, a Chicago
suburb. Joanne graduated from Reavis High School in Burbank in
1975. During her senior year, she won a scholastic achievement
award for editorial writing as the editor of "The
Blueprint," the student newspaper. She attended the College
of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, between 1975 and 1977 and
then transfered to the University of Illinois in Urbana, where
she earned a bachelor of arts degree in rhetoric in 1979.
Joanne's first job after college was as a proofreader for
Research Press, a textbook publisher in Champaign, Illinois. She
married her college sweetheart, James F. O'Hare, on October 6,
1979, and the couple moved to Chicago when Joanne was offered a
position at Crain Communications Inc., a business trade
publisher. In 1981, Joanne and Jim moved to Colorado where Joanne
took a job as a general assignment reporter at "The Delta
County Independent," a twice-weekly community newspaper. In
1983, Joanne became a copy editor for "The Daily
Sentinel" in Grand Junction, Colorado, and was promoted to
assistant news editor in 1984. The couple returned to Chicago in
1985 and were divorced in 1986. Joanne returned to Crain
Communications, this time working as a copy editor. She
transferred to Crain's Los Angeles office in 1990 and currently
holds the title of senior editor at "Business
Insurance," a weekly trade magazine. Joanne, who is
currently single, resides in Agoura, California, where she enjoys
gardening, reading, traveling and home decorating.
