Goals:
After the face off, if you have the puck, always skate to the lower side of the
ice. when you're next to the goal, press the shoot button so that it makes a
slap shot (slap shots are better to score). when the player shoots the puck,
direct your joystick to South/West side. the chance of scoring a goal with
that trick is 90%.

Here is a hint to scoring goals in nhl 98.
When you're coming in on one of the sides, take for example, the RIGHT
side on a one on one, come in and cut across at the top of the circle
and start skating towards the LEFTcorner. Hold down the shoot
button and you will just keep sliding. The defenceman should fall to
the ice to block the shot, but you will keep going past him. The goalie
will drop to the ice as soon as you pass the front of the net. Keep
sliding until you pass the goalie and you have an open net. Once you
have an open net release the shoot button and the puck should fire into
the net, depending on where you aim it. To get used to this method,
practice in shootout mode. This method, depending on how you use it, is
almost 98% effective. Try it out and let me know what you think about
