Ally oop!
Summary: Just an idea I had while watching a Nets
game. I saw this play they did called
Ally Oop and I thought of a fic I could write!
It’s a Saturday night. Angel is watching New Jersey Nets vs. New
York Knick(erbockers…hehe…). Angel basically
is yelling at the TV to tell the Nets how to win the game, could they possibly
hear his thoughts?
A/N: This was written BEFORE/DURING the coach
switch, and Angel has fulfilled the Shanshu prophecy.
Disclaimer: Don’t own a thing…
Dedication:
Congrats to Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin on making
NBA All-Star Team!!! And being second!!!! In the eastern conference
~*--*~
“AND THE NETS SCORE BREAKING THE TIE 52-50 IN THE
THIRD QUARTER!”
a man’s voice boomed from the television.
“It’s about time,” Angel sighed from the couch.
“Knicks take
it up and…WOW! A MARVELOUS STEAL FROM KENYON MARTIN WHO THROWS IT TO KIDD WHO
SLAMS IT INTO THE BASKET!! ALLY OOP PEOPLE ALLY OOP!”
“YES!” Angel shouted quickly standing up and
throwing the popcorn on his lap all over the room. “Oh, dammit…”
“What’s going on down there, Angel?” Buffy shouted
from upstairs.
“The Nets just broke the tie score that’s all
sweetie!” Angel said innocently.
“Come on guys score somemore points already. Kidd he’s gonna fake a left and throw it to
the right!!!! Don’t you see that?!”
“AN AMAZING
STEAL FROM JASON KIDD, EISLEY JUST COULDN’T DO THAT FAKE TO MUTUMBO. KIDD HEADS DOWN THE COURT AND IS GOING TO
SHOO…WAIT HE FAKES IT TO KITTLES WHO EASILY TAKES THE SHOT!”
“YES! WOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Angel, take it easy down there, it’s not like
we’re actually in the stadium,” Buffy shouted.
“Sorry, honey,” Angel yelled back up to her. “Guys, come on 15 seconds left in this
quarter, you guys can gain the possession…maybe even make a three pointer for
me?”
“Eisley
attempts the shot and…MARTIN GRABS IT MID-AIR! HOLY (*televised beep comes on
to block the cursing*) and he runs and
shoots at the three-point line…AND HE MAKES IT AT THE BUZZER!
Angel raised his eyebrow at how the Nets were
doing exactly what he said. ‘Cripes, you’re kidding yourself man, it’s just
coincidental.’ He picked up the remaining popcorn on the floor and sat back
down on the couch again to watch the 4th quarter. The camera was focused on Byron Scott, the
Nets’ coach, showing them plays for the next quarter.
“And we’re
back on YES! Network with the 4th quarters of the Nets vs. Knicks
coming right up. Oh my God, man, that
steal by Martin was great. I bet Scott is feeling really good this quarter.”
“I know,
Dan, and I think they actually might win this, which’ll mean that they’ve won 7
straight games at the Meadowlands (is that what it’s called?), now that’s exciting.”
“OK! Now
back to the game. Knicks are in
possession, taking it down the court.
Kidd’s guarding Eisley closely.
Kidd goes to steal and…OH MY GOD! EISLEY HAS JUST USED HIS FREE HAND TO
PUSH JASON KIDD AWAY!”
“EISLEY YOU MOTHER F…”
“ANGEL!!!!!!!!
ROSE IS TRYING TO SLEEP!!!! AND TONE DOWN ON THE LANGUAGE!!!!” Buffy
yelled from the top of the stairs.
“And Kidd
seems to be down at the moment, and
“That little bastard,” Angel gritted, “Come on,
Kidd, you can get up, you’re tough man, and call that bastard Eisley, a weasel
who doesn’t know what’s good for him…”
“Wait a
minute, it looks like Kidd’s getting up, and he’s going over to Eisley, wait
what’s he saying?”
Angel looked up at the TV anxiously and waited for
what Kidd had said.
“Kidd had
reportedly said to Eisley that ‘you’re a weasel who doesn’t even know what’s
good for yourself.’ This is really
interesting, but the refs have decided it time to get back to the game, and,
Bob, I personally agree with them.”
Angel heard footsteps coming down the stairs. He turned to see his 5-year-old daughter,
Rose, quietly sitting next to him on the couch with her teddy bear.
“Mommy went to sleep, and I wanted to watch the
game with you so I snuck downstairs,” Rose started to suck her thumb, “Is that
alright, Daddy?”
“Of course, sweetie,” Angel said pulling Rose onto
his lap, “You just have to be quiet.”
“And Kidd
takes it up the field, and we can see that his ankle has affected him a little
bit, but that won’t stop him apparently.
He fakes to the left and throws it to Kittles who shoots at the elbow,
AND SCORES!!! 61-50 Nets with their biggest lead so far in this game!”
Rose started to get excited and threw her tiny
hands up in the air.
“
“Daddy,” Rose whispered, “I want them to win.”
“I know, sweetheart, they will,” Angel whispered
back to her.
“Kittles to
Williams, Williams passes it back up to Kidd…”
“Come on, Kidd, pass it to
“Kidd passes
to Jefferson, who takes the shot…AND IT GOES IN! 64-50 IN FAVOR OF THE NETS!!!”
“Daddy,” Rose squealed loudly, “They did exactly
what you said!”
“I know, honey,” Angel smiled.
“ANGEL O’CONNOR!” came a booming voice from the
top of the stairs. Buffy stamped down
the stairs. “WHY IS ROSE OUT OF B…Whoa!” Buffy started to scold but then Angel
went over to her and picked her up and placed her back down on the couch.
“Honey, let’s just watch the game,” Angel
ordered. Buffy furrowed her eyebrow, but
gained interest when she saw Jason Kidd.
“Angel, who’s number 5? He’s kinda hot,” Buffy
blushed.
“Don’t even think about it. Kidd’s married already,” Angel informed her,
“AND with a child, just like ANOTHER family I know.”
“Alright, alright.
Wait, he’s a kid?” Buffy asked, slightly confused.
“No, his name’s Jason Kidd,” Angel explained to
her, “He’s the point guard for the Nets who are winning at this point.”
“Mommy,” Rose said innocently, “Don’t get mad at
Daddy.”
“Sweetie, I’m not mad at Daddy, I’m just…you need
to go to bed,” Buffy said getting up and picking up Rose.
“Guys, call a time-out,” Angel said to the TV
before getting and stopping Buffy. Scott did just that. “Honey, why don’t you let Rose stay down here
and we all can watch the game together?” But Buffy wasn’t paying attention. She was looking at the screen watching the
Nets take a time-out and go to commercial break and Angel’s words saying to
them ‘Call a time-out’. “Honey?”
“You just…did you just?” Buffy said with awe.
“Isn’t it cool, Mommy?” Rose piped in. Buffy said back down on the couch quite
shocked at what had just happened.
“And we
return to the game with
“Awww, come on guys, you can bring it up to 70…”
“75!!!!” Rose wailed.
”Since when did you learn to count that high,” Buffy lightly tapped Rose’s nose
with her finger. Rose just blushed and
smiled all innocently in reply.
“JASON KIDD HAS
JUST BROKEN THE SCORING SLUMP BY NAILING A THREE!!! 67-50!!”
“OK, guys, come on, steal the ball, or better yet,
foul them and make it look like they fouled you,” Angel grinned wickedly.
“OH MY GOD!
THE REFS JUST CALLED ANOTHER FOUL ON EISLEY! AND EISLEY’S SAYING THAT KITTLES
HIT HIM!”
“HA!” Angel said to the television set.
“Angel isn’t that cheating,” Buffy asked.
“Well, if they don’t know that I’m doing it, it’s
essentially not,” Angel smiled innocently back at her. Buffy scowled at him and sat back.
“And Kittles
gets a one-on-one. You know, Bob, I hope Kerry gets these shots. It goes up…and SWOOSH! RIGHT IN THE NET! AND
KITTLES GETS HIS SECOND FREE THROW WITH
“You know, I really could do something for telling
them their moves…” Buffy trailed off.
“But Mommy, they’re winning!” Rose whined, “And
Daddy didn’t do anything, he’s just talkin’ to the TV.” Angel smiled at Buffy,
who sat back in defeat, as she watched her child defend her father. Angel gave
his daughter a little nudge and smiled.
“Fine Angel, this time, you win, but next time…”
Buffy trailed.
“Next time, you’ll what?” Buffy just looked at
him, really not knowing what to say, “I thought so,” Angel said smugly.
“Don’t get so smug, mister,” she went over and
straddled him on the couch, “You have some major paying back to do later.”
Buffy gave an evil grin.
“In any way you want, milady,” Angel still had the
smug look on his face.
“The score
is now 73-50, with Martin just making an unbelievable and very unusual three
pointer. Now, Dan, that’s not usual for
Martin, he’s under the basket.”
“75!!!!” Rose wailed, “75!!!!!!!”
“Rose, sweetheart, calm down,” Buffy rolled onto
the couch and placed Rose on her lap to restrain her.
“But Mommy, they have to get to 75!!!!!” Rose
whined.
“They will, sweetie, trust me, they will,” Angel
smiled.
“Two and a
half minutes to go in this game, Dan, do you think the Knicks’ll be able to
catch up to the Nets who are on fire tonight?”
“I dunno, Bob,
but the Nets are for sure gonna pull this one outta the bag.”
Rose crawled off her mother’s lap onto her father’s. “Daddy, tell them to do something,” she said
as she plopped down on him.
“Mmm, let me think for a moment,” Angel smiled to
see what Buffy would do.
“Ally Oop!” Rose said and pointed at the
television set, “Make them do Ally Oop!” but before Angel could open his mouth,
Richard Jefferson and Aaron Williams were doing the exact thing Rose had said.
“AND
GENTLEMEN WE’VE JUST SEEN SOMETHING NEVER DONE BEFORE DONE! JEFFERSON AND WILLIAMS HAVE NEVER WORKED SO
WELL BEFORE!!!!”
Rose squealed in happiness on her father’s lap as
her parents just stared at her in awe.
Even Angel couldn’t get over how she could do the same thing as he
could. After Rose had calmed down they
watched as the Nets scored five more points, two baskets and one free throw
that Kidd had taken. The clock was now
rounding down and there was thirty seconds to go. Rose was up on the table and dancing at this
point. Buffy had made an attempt to stop
her but Rose was determined so she led her mother on a small chase around the
house until Rose jumped back onto Angel’s lap.
Angel gave a slight grunt to show he’d been slightly winded.
“Ok, Rose, stay still for just a few more seconds,” Angel started to
plead.
“Ok, Daddy,” Rose innocently smiled and fluttered
her eyelids a few times. Angel watched
as Buffy came back out of breath and her hair slightly out of place.
“Angel, you could’ve helped,” Buffy put her hands on
her hips.
“But there’s thirty seconds left!” Angel motioned
to the TV, not paying attention to the Nets who just scored a basket.
“Yeah,” Buffy squinted and then smirked, “and then
you have some now even more MAJOR paying back to do, so you’ve got to make it
extra-good.”
“Daddy, they scored! They scored!” Rose squeaked
and clapped her little hands together. Angel
quickly turned his head back to the TV and held his daughter close to him.
“The Knicks
make a basket with five seconds to go.
Kidd throws it in to Kittles. Kittles throws it back at him and…he seems
to just be holding it.”
“Come on, shoot a three and make it from there!
You can do it!” Angel made one last command.
“Kidd just
shoots it from where he standing and the buzzer sounds and OH MY GOD IT WENT
IN!!!!!!”
“WOOOO!” Rose and Angel got up and started
cheering with each other.
“The final
score is 80-52. God that was a great game, Dan, stay tuned for the Yes! Network
Post-Game show.”
As soon as he said that Buffy snatched the remote
and turned the TV, but nothing could stop Rose and Angel from cheering. “Rose, it’s time for you to go to bed, and
Angel, it’s time for you to show me what you’ve got,” Buffy couldn’t help but
smile.
“Oh, alright,” Angel playfully snapped his fingers
like he was disappointed. He picked Rose
up and carried her up the stairs to her bedroom. Buffy followed closely behind. She watched as Angel gently tucked her into
bed.
“Can I watch next time they play?” Rose quietly
begged as her eyes slowly were closing.
“We’ll think about it,” Buffy said, coming over to
Rose and kissing her forehead, “Sleep tight, little one.”
“I will, Mommy, you too,” Rose wiggled to get herself
comfortable under the covers.
“Angel, I’ll be waiting,” Buffy said seductively,
and Angel held back a groan.
“Daddy, we gotta do that again sometime,” Rose
smiled and started to giggle.
“We will, sweetheart, but for now you have to
sleep,” Angel kissed Rose on the cheek, “Don’t let the bedbugs bite,
Rosey-posey.”
“I won’t, Daddy,” Rose giggled again, “’Night.”
“Goodnight, sweetheart,” Angel turned Rose’s
night-light on and shut the door before heading towards his and Buffy’s room
for a night of pleasure.

“Hey, K-Mart,” Jason Kidd whispered to Kenyon
Martin.
“What is it?”
“Did you feel like…this is gonna sound crazy but,
did you feel like someone was telling you what to do for different parts of
that game?”
“Yeah, I was thinking’ it
was just me…you had it too?”
“Yeah,” Kidd said, “It was
weird.”
“Well, hey, it won us they
game, whatever it might’ve been.”
“It won us the game,”
Jason smiled, “Aiight, K-Mart, I gotta go see my wife
and kids.”
“You have a goodnight man,”
Kenyon punched his shoulder as Jason turned and left.
