In Operation Taliban Takedown
A normal drop into hostile territory in northern Afghanstan a Blackhawk helicopter pilot ignores intel that one may contain anti aircraft machine guns that was supposed to be destroyed two months earlier. What he didn't know was that Operation had failed as bullets started to come up from the hillside and one RPG hit the Blackhawk in the side, causing it a lot of damage.Searching for a good place to put the chopper down, bullets were shooting through the metal of the chopper killing Airborne Rangers that were inside. In a last ditch effort a somewhat hilly field would have to do.
Ten hours later he awoke to find all but three members of his crew alive. The helicopter was totalled and didn't even look like a helicopter but a swissed cheese green bus. He and the men worried about when the enemy was coming to make them POWS. Suprisely the radio worked and he called the base which told him that helicopter were on there way. Cocking his handgun there was a russle in the bush as men started to run towards the chopper. Two shots later the pilot realized that he help fast because more Taliban were on there way.
Two little birds dropped a six man crew a quarter mile away from the crash site. The soldiers could hear gunshots in the distance and wondered if they had already failled their objective. Running through high brush Alpha Team could see the helcopter about 100 feet away as Bravo Team covered the falk. Running as fast as they could they finally reached the chopper with the three men badly injured and running low on ammo from holding of the enemy. Alpha soon realized that they were doing to have to set up a LZ for medic choppers. It was their objective.
Bravo team had taken one casaulty but elimanted most of the resistance . They watched Alpha secure the helicopter and hold it of all the resistance while clearing the LZ.
When it was all over. All three remaining crewman survived the crash but ten airbourbe Rangers had lost their lifes on the crash. One Bravo Ranger was killed and one Alpha member was wounded. All the resistance from the Taliban were elimanted, their were fifty bodies found. The helicopter was destroyed upon leaving the LZ and there is a small moment there today.
