The Crucible Hero
It began like any other lat summer day,
The bright sun warmed the asphalt,
Then suddenly and without warning,
Our world as we knew it was shattered,
Shattered like the windows which once reflected that sunlight,
The sun's warmth blocked now,
By the smoke from the flames which took it's place,
Residence of the lower island,
Looking like refugees fleeing their sacred land,
Trying to escape to freedom from the images,
From the terror which came out of the sky,
No inpatients could be heard in their voices,
Only relief, horror, and sadness,
They all craved unheard news,
And a feeling of safety in their world,
They stumble past their neighbors, co-worker and strangers,
All in each others eyes the same as themselves,
They grab hands if only for a second,
But even in that second they share a prayer of hope,
Soon they had visions of their hopes,
As dust covered heroes emerged,
From the fires of hell,
Thousands were guided by the hand of the father,
Through the chosen one's,
Those few with the black jackets,
With yellow stripes,
And the head coverings made of leather and hardened plastic,
The heroes of this day,
Gave all they could to save a few,
Crucified on the cross,
As Jesus was to save mankind,
These men, these women,
Put their life on the line to save someone else's,
As the skyline crashed back to earth.
