MANGROVES I received my mangroves from Brian Hurov in Hawaii on March 25, 2002. They were shipped to me in a US Priority Mail box. They were shipped out on March 19. During that time, in Wisconsin, we had highs in the mid 30's and lows in the low 20's. They appear to be in very good health. I purchased 30 and about 15 of them have a few leaves on them. Almost all of them have what I consider good root growth. Brian was very prompt in his emails and any questions I had for him. You can email him here.
In these pictures, you can see how I have the mangroves floating in my sump. I cut a styrofoam lid in strips and drilled holes large enough for the mangroves to be firmly attached. I found it easiest to place the mangroves in from the bottom up. For the mangroves with leaves, I cut a slot in the syrofoam, to avoid breaking off the leaves. I have the roots about 2-3" off the surface of the sand.
I would like to thank John Rice for putting together a wonderful and helpful website dedicated to his tank. Please take the time to read through his site. Here is a link to his section on Mangroves

This will be the final resting place for the Mangroves. I hopefully will have this up and running soon. I would also like to make this surge into my sump, but we'll see :)
