Through this homepage, I would like to introduce you to Chinese Culture, especially on Hokkian / Hokkien or Minnan language and culture.

Indeed I am not an expert on Sinology but as a Chinese descendant and as a native speaker of Hokkian, I hope we can share information on things related.

Hokkian language is also referred as Hokkien, Minnan, Amoy, Fujianese, Fukkien, Taiwanese, Taigi, Taigu, Hoklo, etc. Hokkian / Minnan is a member of Chinese language family. In fact, Chinese language isn't only Mandarin or Putonghua. It's a family of languages (or dialects) which used by Chinese people. In this unique family, there are Mandarin, Wu, Gan, Xiang, Min (Minbei and Minnan), Hakka, Cantonese, etc. Click here to know more about Hokkian language and Chinese language family.

As a Christian, I also would like to share with you some information on Christianity particularly in relationship with Chinese literature & culture.

Herein some articles on special topic:

John 3:16 in languages:

John 3:16 tells us about God's love for this world (humanity). It's regarded as one of the most essential and well-known verses of Bible. Some people even consider it as the core verse of the Bible.  Please click here to view the verse in many languages such as Chinese (Hokkian and Mandarin), Greek, Latin, English, German, French, Indonesian, Korean, Japanese, etc.

Chinese New Year  =  Sin-Cia*/.  =  Chun1Jie2

Chinese New Year is the most important festival in Chinese tradition and celebrated for 15 days. It's also known as Spring Festival. Please click here to read a very informative page about Chinese New Year. Here are other links, please click the asterisks: *  *  *

In these links: *  *  * you can read that the ninth day is the offering day for Thi*-Kong/. = Tian1Gong1, the ruler of heaven in Taoism that also known as Jade Emperor = Giok~Hongv.Tai~Tei~. = Yu4Huang2Da4Di4. This offering day is celebrated only by Hokkian/Hokkien people (Minnan people in Fujian province; of course by those who believe in Taoism, not by Christians). Actually it was a historical event to give thanks to Heaven for ending of a war in Fujian (Hokkian) province in 13th century. Later it became a Taoist holiday. Please click here to read a short yet very informative article in English about the historical background of the offering day.

There are a lot of interesting things about Chinese New Year, including dishes, decorations, Lantern Festival in the 15th day, etc. Chinese New Year is celebrated by all Chinese worldwide regardless of their religions. Chinese Christians also celebrate this blissful Spring Festival in churches in accordance with biblical teachings. It's also a good event to share God's love with others. Further information can be gotten by searching internet for related articles.
