Nitros, Hahn take the offensive
Glendale boy's water polo team notches 10 first-
quarter goals in 15-4 league road win.

PASADENA -- Matt Hahn put in a full day of work in half a match.
The Glendale High boys' water polo player accomplished the feat mostly without a catch.
The 6-foot-4 Hahn scored five first-quarter goals to lead the Nitros to a 15-4 victory against host Muir in a Pacific League match Wednesday.
"My shot selection changes," said Hahn, a senior utility player who played in the first and third quarters. "I just fire the ball when the goalkeeper isn't paying attention. When I get a pass, I don't catch the ball. I usually just shoot right away."
The muscular Hahn, an all-leaguer in 2000, scored three goals without catching the ball Wednesday. The team captain completed his scoring barrage in about four minutes.
Glendale (3-5, 1-1 in league) scored the first 10 goals, forcing Muir (3-9, 1-1 in league) to call a much-needed timeout. The Nitros' first two goals came off steals.
Everything feeds on defense, Glendale Coach Pat Lancaster said. "This was our best devensive effort. We still need to work on team goals like working our offense more."
It marked the most goals Glendale has scored this season. Its previous best of 14 came in a 14-13 victory against Royal in the Villa Park Tournament on Saturday. The Nitros finished 14th in the tournament, a year after placing 19th.
Jon Lee, another all-leaguer last season, added a pair of first-half goals for Glendale on Wednesday. Lee's goals gave the Nitros a 3-0 lead nearly 90 seconds into the match.
The Nitros were without starting goalkeeper Jerry Sung, who has been ill. Lancaster started Edgar Torosyan and replaced him with Narbeh Amirian in the fourth quarter.
