Whether you're talking about cult classics like the Lubitel and the Diana or one of the many "free" 35mms, cheap cameras have carved themselves a solid niche in photography. Without the myriad technical adjustments of professional cameras, shooting with a junk camera is a technically-liberating experience. Soft focus, light leaks and poor framing distinguish their images. Are these artists geniuses on the cutting edge, or are they wannabes trying to hide their lack of talent? Maybe it's just about having a good time.
