Hi, my name is Yiannis Nisyrios and I was born not too long ago, on the 16th of June 1980 in Thessaloniki (it's the 2nd largest city in Greece, some 500 km north of Athens). My roots go back to the island of Nisyros (next to Kos, at the Dodecanese), two generations ago from my father's side, and to Xanthi, from my mother's side.  I've lived in Harilaou, a district in the east end of the city for the first 18 years of my life, graduating from the 2nd Lyceum Harilaou.

I've lived a large part of my life in the UK, during my studies, between 1998 and 2002. I have a BSc in Chemistry with Food Science and an MSc in Food Technology - Quality Assurance, both of them from the University of Reading (School of Chemistry | School of Food Biosciences), living at St. Patrick's Hall during all four years. Life in the UK was nice, although I would have appreciated it better if I was older when I went abroad to study. Two years have already passed since I finished university and sometimes I miss a lot both student life and life in the UK in general.

After uni, I carried on to my military service (War Material Corps). I've had had my basic training in KEYP, Lamia and transferred to Polykastro and afterwards to Xanthi, serving as the General Material Management assistant in both units.

In December 2003 I've started working in TACOM S.A. in Lakkoma, Halkidiki, a cork stoppers stamping and processing factory, as the Quality Control Technician and in January 2005 I carried on to Agrolab S.A. Analytical Laboratories in Sindos, Thessaloniki as a Bench Analyst in the Food Analysis Laboratory. This is where I work until today.

Currently, I live in the area of Ippokratio (or Kyveleia, or Hirsch) in Thessaloniki. I drive a black Seat Ibiza, I enjoy travelling by car (whenever my finance allows it) and I am a fan of computers and technology in general, as regards to their improving my life through their applications.

My favourite activity since I was 12 years old is photography. I have owned a Canon EOS500N since 1997 and have recently moved to digital with the Canon EOS300D. I miss the finesse of the traditional film, but the ability to shoot as many pictures as I want over any weekend trip has won me over. Plus, I get to print my photos in photographic paper in any lab nowadays. Of course, most of my photos are worked with Photoshop before they reach the lab - and I quite like that because it makes my photographic work more creative.

My site has, over the last 7 years, more-or-less the same structure. You have this page with info on me and a gallery with samples of my work. I refuse to move on to sophisticated animations, frames and the lot - I prefer improving my site only graphically. I'm not a photographer, but I hope that my pictures move a step further than typical snapshots. I'm improving all the time... practice makes perfect!
