Dave Grohls Biography

Dave Eric Grohl was born on January 31, 1969 in Warren, Ohio. His parents, Virginia and James Grohl divorced when Dave turned six. David's family had music integrated into its past and it continued into its future. He decided to have guitar lessions at the age of ten but soon decided to self-teach himself. By the age of twelve, Dave had gotten his first electric guitar. Dave soon joined a local band and as a result was introduced to punk rock.

Later on, Dave joined a band called Freak Baby; he was the drummer. Afterwards, Freak Baby changed their name to Mission Impossible- it changed its name to Fast. Around 1986, fast split up. Dave then joined a band called Dain Bramage along with Fast's bass player. At the age of 16, Dave tried to join a band called Scream (as the drummer)- at first, they thought he was too young, but soon let him be in the band.

Dave toured with Scream after one year and a half. However, Scream was having budget problems and two of its members were missing. Scream's tour was cancelled shortly afterwards.

Dave contacted a friend, Buzz Osborne, who recomended that Dave try out for the Seattle band, Nirvana, as its drummer. Dave auditioned in front of Kurt and Krist who were impressed with his drumming abilities. His first show with Nirvana was the North Shore Surf Club in Olympia.
