What is Nirvana English Setters All About
So where do we start ?  How about 1968 ............

That was the year the first of the 'setters' appeared in our lives.  Up until this point, there had always been a variety of dogs, primarily Beagles.  To this day, my sister continues with her own line of top winning Beagles.

Going even further back in history finds my mother involved with dogs amongst other animals.  Her dad, my grandfather was a member of the North West Mounted Police, a precursor to the present day Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  My grandfather, John Banks Simpson was involved in the apprehension of criminals using tracking dogs.  The dog of choice was the Bloodhound, which was a dog bred my my grandfather.

In addition Airedale terriers were part of the Simpson family.  Even in those days dog showing was a part of the life of the Simpson family.  I guess you could say, there were multi-purpose dogs even back then.

Fast forward to late 1960's ....... the arrival of our first setter.  Up until this time the family canines existed in the form of Beagles with an interspersing of Cocker Spaniels.  Given my mom's heritage and my dad's ongoing desire to have an Irish Setter, it seemed logical that that would be the dog of choice and so it was in 1968 ..... the arrival of 'Lady', our first setter, albeit Irish.  Lady was followed by
Kelley who was followed by Penny .... eeeee haaaa the first English Setter.

Penny was a 'gem' of an English Setter but was extremely shy and hence never did appreciate the show ring but was instrumental in the establishment of the line.  Although she had only one litter, this litter was a sound combination of 2 lines, Meadboro and Stone Gable , each forming the cornerstone of this bloodline.

Penny's pedigree.  No picture is available for this wonderful girl due to a house fire in 1972 where many of our valued photos were lost.

The true appreciation of the breed was thus born and it wasn't long before a decision was made to introduce another English by the name of
Toby.

Toby was the classic English Setter boy .... loving, kind and a true couch potato.
the became part of our family compliments of Robert and Irene Gilham of

Brandyrun English Setters and was the foundation stud of Burgandyrun Kennels.

The first litter produced under the 'Burgandyrun' prefix was born of '
Toby' and 'Penny' on April 22, 1970.  Two bitches were kept from this breeding .... Ch. Burgandyrun's Butter Kandy - 'Butter' and Ch. Burgandyrun's Miss Dignity - 'Diggy'.

As the ensuing years progressed, the family
became very actively involved in the competition
side of things with Irish and English Setters and
Beagles.

The breeding program continued with the above dogs as the solid foundation for sound and typey English
Setters.  The next litters produced were out of 'Butter' and 'Dignity' bred to Am.Can. Ch. Top Man Of Meadboro, owned by yet another mentor to us, Thomas Zirnheld.

Key dogs that were a product of these breedings were ....
