"New" Nirvana Album In October
An album of previously unreleased live
Nirvana recordings is set for release in early
October. The two CD set has been produced under
the supervision of former Nirvana members Dave
Grohl and Krist Novoselic. Originally, an album of
live electric Nirvana material was to have been
paired with the songs that were released on the
"MTV Unplugged" album that was released as a
single CD at the end of 1994. However Grohl and Novoselic didn't feel up to
dealing with going through all the live tapes so soon after Cobain's death. The
L. A. Times reports today that the album has the working title From the
Muddy Banks of Wishkah. The album includes material beginning with
shows the group did in 1989, prior to the success of "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
and Nevermind, right up through the final 1994 European tour. The Times
describes the music as "raw and raucous." The two surviving members of
Nirvana are not expected to do any press to promote the album, and there
are no plans to make a video.
