Import Dealers FAQ v.2.1

Here are some addresses of places that sell import CD's.

*Some European live CD's may be illegal in the U.S. I cannot say whether
any of the below retailers carry such discs.*

A Brief Set of Questions and Answers:

    1. How do I know these places are reliable?
You don't. Look for ones that use real street addresses, not P.O.
boxes. If they do have a P.O. box, ask around on Usenet for
    recommendations.

    2. How do I order?
The safest method is to call first, reserve the title, and give your
name, address, and phone number. Then send a check or money order.
Checks are best, because you haven't "spent" the money until it is
cashed. That way, if it is lost or the place cannot obtain the title,
they can destroy the check, and your money is not lost. I consider
credit cards to be a very bad idea, because the honesty of some
retailers may not be up to standard. Also, ask for a
specific period of time in which you should expect to
    receive your merchandise.

    3. How do I know if this stuff is good quality?
Once again, look on the Usenet for recommendations. With a CD, there
aren't too many that are really terrible, but be careful.. Generally
the live titles of the most established names, KTS, Octopus, Why Not,
Home, Banzai, and Swinging Pig will be EX+ audience or board.
Audio and video tapes are a wide open frontier.
Check ratings, if given, and generally assume anything that
    isn't "1" or "EX+" or "A" is actually terrible.

    4. What if my order hasn't arrived after the specified date?
Well, this has happened to me several times, and there are several
courses of action. If it's only been a week or two, it is likely
that the place has had trouble obtaining the item, or has run out of
stock (which is why reserving, if allowed, is a GOOD idea). Call or
write, be cordial, and inquire as to the status of your order.
They may be pissed off, as there is nothing they can do. Try to
get specific reasons, but don't expect them.
IT IS ALWAYS OK TO ASK FOR YOUR MONEY BACK. If it has been over one
month PAST THE TIME THEY TOLD YOU IT WOULD ARRIVE,
they are now obligated to explain what the hell is going on.
Continue to call or write until you get a real answer. If they
continue to be ambiguous, you are left with THE FINAL SOLUTION. This
should only be done if you have a large order, feel ripped off, and
NEVER expect to do business with this company again. You write to
them and threaten to complain to the Better Business Bureau (in the
phone book). Anyway, this usually results in you getting a
    CD/tape, or your money back.

    5. What if I'm dissatisfied?
Tough. This isn't BMG Music Service here ;) Barring a major defect,
such as a missing disc or a massively scratched one, you have no
right to complain about the quality of a live disc. Regular imports should
    be up to standard, however.
