My Life... As It Happened
My childhood
BORN in Ganjoo family, eldest daughter of Shri Soom Nath Ganjoo. Brought up with all the love and caring in the world. We three sisters were like Princesses of our parents, and a dear brother was simply special, being the only brother. I spent my childhood at 47-GogjiBagh, Srinagar Kashmir, along with my cousins, uncles and aunties in a large joint family.
A joint family where love affection and caring flowed, and there was no feeling of me and you.We were equally loved by elders and as such in our young minds we felt no distinction between cousins or real brother or sister. It was a very happy life, with so much of fun. Every body was given a nick name to tease each other including elders, of course kept secret from them. Remembring those stupid names makes me laugh even now, imagine - shiridhar, bil, madav, gagar ,shamjee, tattabatta, khinkhi, ganmongru, panzee, mamchinth, kalipacee, safed shaitan etc. Our teachers who used give us tuition at home were also not spared. Life was only masti and hungama, no tenstion. Every day was a celebration for us, studies were going to school and getting some passing marks and elders were there to take care of the rest. There are so many pranks of chilhood - "Bachpan wo kagaj ki kashti woh barish ka pani, woh kashmir woh baraff aur woh tulmul". Then, of course, going to picnics, with school or with parents. My elder sister (cousin) Dr. Vijay and myself were very close to each other, sharing our clothes  and our little secrets .
My first school was D A V School up to 4th standard. It was like our own school, my uncle Shri R. K. Ganjoo was the Principal. Then from 5th class, I joined 'Arya Samaj' Wazir Bagh, up to 10th class. There are no regrets of my childhood, it was a very happy and contented time.
