Ryltar Cormrael was born into Clan Cormrael, a Drow Trader Clan. His mother went on a 'trading mission' (more commonly referred to as a raid by surface dwellers) while still carrying him, and went in to labor with him months before he was expected; hence, he was born on the surface world, rather than in the Underdark--a fact which his Clan never forgot, and which they often used as an explanation of his sometimes 'eccentric' behaviors. In the end they would also find this justification for his choice in leaving the Underdark behind completely, and choosing instead to live in the surface world. That choice, for a long time, was a very difficult one for him to live with, given the Drow sensitivities to light; luckily, however, he was young enough that in time he was able to adjust to normal life in the surface... though he still seeks the solace of darkness when he is troubled or simply wishes to relax.
Eventually he did find a home, a place where he felt reasonably comfortable: in the kingdom of Vanyanin Aran'dor. He offered his services to the King, Torlan Aki'rae, and was accepted, and swiftly went from a suspicious outsider to a trusted companion, growing into both friend and Advisor to the King. He now oversees much of both the Palace and Kingdom security concerns, as well as having a quiet hand in most of the King's affairs.
Posessed of a dry humor and quick wit, he is often considered rude and flippant; this is simply his personality, however, and while he may seem something of a bastard most times, there is more to him than is readily apparent. |
