WWF No Mercy

Last year's blockbuster WWF Wrestlemaina 2000 was an excellent N64 wrestling game. Many places were sold out of it until after Christmas. This year THQ returned with some new features but is it worth the purchase if you bought WM2k or imported Virtual Pro Wrestling 2? Well I got 2 words for ya...

Story: 9

In the Career mode all the different cut scenes (and believe me there are lots) are based off of events from this past year which is probably the only thing keeping this from getting a 10. Remember what happened from Royal Rumble to Wrestlemaina with HHH, Rock, Big Show, and Mick Foley? Well that happens if you do certain things in the WWF Title Career.

Graphics: 8

A little bit better than last year in every way except the Titan Tron videos. I think the quality there got worse. In fact I turned all of them off except for Chris "Y2J" Jericho because: 1. it's part of his on TV entrance (Who else's Titan Tron plays full screen before they walk to the ring?) and 2. it probably is the best quality...

Game Play: 10

This is the high point of any good wrestling game. Whether you've never played a wrestling game before or you are a veteran you will be pulling off moves with ease. New to the game are Handicap matches (which Daniel missed last year...), Special Guest Referees, Iron man matches, and a Ladder match. Yes a LADDER MATCH! You can also have a Tag Team ladder match but there will be only one ladder. As I said earlier this game is easy for everyone... 2 friends and I had a half-hour ladder match and the one who won had probably never played a game in this series before this night.

Sound: 8

Although there are hardly any voices (there are some clips in the menus, and the intro), and the in game music isn't very good (turn it off to make the game run faster :) The entrance music, while still not as good as Attitude's, is a step up from last year. If you listen to Original 3 and 4 in the Create a Wrestler carefully they sound a lot like The Big Show's (unfortunately not in the game...) and Undertaker's old theme.

Lasting Value: 10

The Career mode is great. There are so many storylines that it will take you a while to 100% every belt (the game keeps track). There is also a "Smackdown Mall" where you buy some of the hidden things in the game, like moves, clothing items, weapons, and characters. There are only 2 characters not in the mall. Prices range from $500 for some body tape to $500,000 for a ho. This game will keep you busy for a while.

Bottom Line (appropriate for this game no doubt)

If you've ever played any of the other 4 games with this engine (There is one on Playstation but it is horrible), you will love this game... Too Cool Dances, Rock has his Just Bring It taunt, and the WWF champion of all time has his lovely wife Stephanie at his side. Oh and I forgot about the backstage areas, and breakable tables!
