The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time

The Zelda series is one of the best-known videogame series known by gamers today. Past releases on the NES, SNES, and GB are considered the best of best for their systems. So, what about Zelda 64? Was it worth all the hype it got before its release, or was it a big disappointment?

Graphics: 10

The move into 3-D did the Zelda series only good. Link is presented exactly as I pictured he would look on the N64 (except for those earrings...). The sun setting and moon rising is an awesome effect. Make you feel you are actually in the world. I was in awe of the graphics in this game. Not much more to say.

Game Play: 8

The Game Play is what makes the game special. Everything is extremely fun to do. If you get a sick of going through the dungeons, you can take a detour and play a few mini-games. The fishing one is my favorite; it's better than a lot of normal fishing games. Other mini-games include archery, bowling, and horseback riding. There are others too. If you don't want to play mini-games, go and visit all the towns in the game. Talk to the people. There is so much to do in this game. The only thing that really brings the score down is that the puzzles are way too easy. If you've played any of the past Zeldas, you won't get stuck in this game at all.

Sound: 10

The classic Zelda music is there. This automatically makes the sound great, but the sound effects make it close to perfect. Everything Link does in this game sounds realistic.

Lasting Value: 7

It'll take you a long time to beat this game. If you go through the game without playing mini-games and doing side quests, it'll probably take you 20-30 hours. If you do the extra things, it'll take you double that time. However, once you beat the game you probably won't find yourself wanted to play it much again.

Bottom Line

The charm from the past Zeldas makes its way into this game, and makes Zelda 64 one of the top games on the N64. The only problem is that gamers will find this game too easy and therefore minor disappointment. Other than that, this game is as close to perfect as you can get.
