    Jet Force Gemini

    By Corey

Jet Force Gemini, what can I say about this game? This game has gotten a bad name from most reviewers, and I have no clue why. Rare has again made a game that went beyond my expectations. I'll tell you how down below.

    Indroduction

JFG is a game that I think some people expected way to much from. This action game has it all, a helicopter robot, enemy bugs, all-powerful weapons, and a tank-like dog. There isn't much of a story to the game, but with action like JFG brings, there is no need for one.

    Graphics: 10

Absolutly stunning. Detail in the good guys, enemies, buildings, sun, water, etc. is perfect. I'm not sure how people could dislike the graphics, maybe they are too pleasing to the eye for some people. The way Juno walks is a little awkward, but everything else is amazing. It makes you seem like you are the one blowing away those alien bugs. The way enemies die is also great, maybe one of the reasons I still play this game after beating it months ago.

    Game Play: 10

Spectacular! Going through the inital levels with each of the 3 characters for the first time is a blast, killing the easier enemies and collecting the tribals you can. It was one of my favorite gaming experiences. Then you find out you have to go back and collect every single tribal in the game. Some find this a chore. I found it as a blessing. Just another reason to go through these highly detailed levels.

The control scheme may seem difficult to get used to as first, as it is different from 1st-person games you may be used to playing on your N64, but I like this better than the control scheme of Turok for example. Most of the time you are in 3rd-person mode which is fine to use. Firing your gun, jumping, and switching weapons isn't a problem. In order to snipe out enemies in tree, you have to switch to 1st-person mode by holding the R Button down. The controls then change and confuse an early player. This really isn't too hard to get used to, as the game eases your way into it. Some people hate it, however.

The enemy AI is the best I've ever seen. When you start the game with a puny pistol, bugs go at you with full force in groups. As you start to kill a few, some hide behind object, some surrender, some run away in terror. Later when you get your Tri-Rocket Launcher, just watch all those bugs drop their guns and shake like there is no tomorrow. If you let them be, they may pick up their guns again and attack you from behind. Some enemies have sheilds, so you'll have to find weapons that can get by them. Other enemies are 5 times your size and shoot their own Rockets at you. You will also find flying drones that come at you in groups. These are probalby the mose challenging enemy in the game because you have no idea when they will appear.

    Sound: 10

I can't think of another adjective to use here. I'm just going to say everything from the music to the explosions are great.

    Lasting Value: 10

I find myself going to the levels with hundreds of bugs over and over again, mowing them down with my machine-gun. With 15 worlds, most having 2-4 areas to explore, you will be playing for a long time. When you beat the game, you can always go back and redo each level again. And you will want to back to some of these levels again..

    Bottom Line

JFG is in my top 3 for best N64 game. Easily the best action/shooter I've ever played. Its too bad people haven't heard about this game being so great. Instead they are reading all the bad reviews. They are missing something special.

Final Score: 10 out of 10 (this is not an average)
