Doom 64
By
Corey
Just about everyone
on Earth knows what Doom is. Instead of just a
port, the N64 gets its own exclusive game.
Graphics:
8
The
Graphics in the game are quite nice. Everything
in the game has extremely good detail. The colors
used in the game make everything seem creepy. One
problem is that the enemies have no animation.
Even though it doesn't look all that great, this
allows for tons of enemies to be on the screen at
a time, rather than 1 or 2.
Just
a warning, before you play make sure you go to
the options menu and turn brightness all the way
up. Otherwise, the game may be too dark to play.
Even with brightness all the way up, the game is
still dark.
Game
Play: 7
Run,
kill, collect keys, kill, push a switch, kill,
finish the level. That's basically it. You can't
jump, you can't look up or down, you just shoot.
What makes the game hard is the placment of
enemies, keys, and traps. In some levels, you'll
have to kill just a bunch of the hardest enemies
to pass. Others you'll have to solve some puzzles
with switches. Though this doesn't sound very
fun, you are always involved in some sort of
action because enemies are constantly after you.
Control
is very simple, and you can change all the
buttons to whatever you want them to do. Also,
you can use the control stick or d-pad to move.
What
kills this game is no multi-player. Even if is
used split screen, it would be better than
nothing.
Sound:
9
There
really isn't much music to the game. Heck, its
not even music really. Just a bunch of noises,
and sounds of living things screaming/crying. Its
only goal is try to make the mood of the game
more creepy and it works. The sound effects are
important though since all enemies have a unique
sound to them. This allows you to tell where the
demons are coming from, how many are after you,
and what kind. Even one of the weapons, the
plasma rifle, makes a pretty cool noise just
while you are holding it.
Lasting
Value: 5
Though
the game is fun while it lasts, once you beat it
your done. Unless you just like the game so much
you want to keep playing, you will have no reason
to go back to it.
Bottom
Line
This
is Doom. If you liked other versions of Doom,
you'll like this. If you hated other versions
you'll hate this. If you've never played Doom
before, give this one a shot.
Final
Score: 8 out of 10
