    Blast Corps

    By Corey

Rare has brought so many great games to the N64, haven't they? Jet Force Gemini, Goldeneye, Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, etc. Well, what about Blast Corps? You don't hear many people talk about this misfit of a game.

    Graphics: 9

The visuals of the game were at the top of the pack in it's prime. So much detail and color effects in every single object. You'd think you were really destroying those cities. The explosions could have been a bit better, but I'm not complaining.

    Gameplay: 8

Woah! This is pretty original. Basically, the object of the game is to destroy everything. Yep, you heard me. There are buildings, and you don't want them standing. Why? There is an out of control truck holding a nuclear missile and you don't want it to crash. Good enough for me.

Of course, it isn't all fun and games. Well, maybe it is. But there is strategy involved in the game. You have to find the correct path to destroy the buildings in, or else you won't have time. Or maybe you'll have to choose the vehicles to use and when to use them. You may have to find certain items or gain access to places that normally you couldn't get to. But the main part is destroying buildings.

There are also other things to do. Some levels have you racing for a fast time on certain areas. There are a couple Pac-Man style levels. You'll even find yourself on different planets for a couple missions if you meet the qualifications.

A couple problems are present though. A few vehicles are way too hard to control and are hard to use. They teach you at their best how to get them to work properly, but the Backlash especially is frustrating. That makes from some pretty hard levels anyway...

    Sound: 8

Exploding buildings, cars, crates, fences, and well basically everything else sounds as it should. Screeching tires and other realistic sounds are also present. Music is actually quite addicting and the track fits the game well. Some of the sounds the cars make when you honk their horns are downright hilarious.

    Lasting Value: 10

This game is long. There are tons of levels to go through. There are some that'll take you a long time to figure out. Plus, once you get a Gold medal on all the levels, more open up. After you get all Golds on those, you'll be asked to go for Platinum. Plus this is a good game to play when you need to feed your need for destruction.

    Bottom Line

This is another solid title to own. Especially since you can find it for very cheap at some places. Puzzle and Action fans alike should like this game especially. Just be aware that the difficulty is very high at some parts of the game.

Final Score: 8 out of 10 (this is not an average)
