    Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

    By Corey

Note: Keep in mind that this is of the original game and not the DX version.

This is the 4th installment of the Legend of Zelda series. Some people considered it, and still do consider it, the best game in the series. This is also the first game in the series to take place away from the land of Hyrule.

    Graphics: 10

When released way back in 1993 this game resembled it's big brother, A Link to the Past which was on the SNES, except for the lack of color of course. Every single object in the game is highly detailed. I guess high quality is to be expected from a Zelda game.

    Game Play: 10

This is simple enough to explain, right? Guide Link through a number of dungeons while collecting 8 instruments needed to wake the Windfish. Hey, I just explained much of the beginning story. Anyway, as you go through the game you'll gain items, abilities, and more life. There aren't as many items to use as there are in A Link to the Past, but the ones you do get allow you to perform various different moves. This is the only Zelda game that allows you to jump when in a 2 1/2 D prospective. It is also pretty fun to do too. If you've played Zelda 1 or A Link to the Past, you know how the gameplay works. If not, you need to play them and play them now!

I'll mention here that Koholint Island, the place this game takes place in, is huge. There are a total of 256 screens in the overworld to go through, plus the underground and mountain passages, plus the dungeons, plus any other indoor locations. And because this game doesn't take place in Hyrule. Because of this, you'll be introduced to new areas, people, and items. Most people have something interesting to say, so make sure you talk to everyone.

    Sound: 10

It's a Zelda game. So it has the Zelda music and sound. So that makes the sound top notch, for a Game Boy game anyway. There are tons of different sound effects for every single type of action. Most of the music in the game is memorable in a Zelda theme sort of way.

    Lasting Value: 10

Like mentioned earlier, this game is huge. Beating it once will take a long time, at least 20 hours most likely. There are also a lot of different types of mini-games and cheats to try out. Did you ever steal from the item store? Well, you can. For a list of more cheats to try out, go here.

    Bottom Line

If you own any type of Game Boy, you must own this masterpiece. The only reason not to like this game is if you hate the Zelda series in general.

Final Score: 10 out of 10
