    Donkey Kong Land 2

    By Corey

    Introduction

Donkey Kong has been kidnapped and the banana hoard has been stolen. As Diddy and Dixie, you must save the hoard as well as the big ape.

NOTE: Keep in mind that this is bascially a port of Donkey Kong Country 2 for the Super Nintendo.

    Graphics: 8

Considering this is an older game, the graphics are sweet. They resemble their SNES counterpart in every way except for full color. The game does colorize pretty well on the GBC but without it, they still are pretty nice. There is one problem however. Sometimes when an object or character is in the middle of the screen, they become "blurred" (can't really describe it). This is a little annoying and takes away from the score.

    Game Play: 10

DKL2 takes platformers to a new level (when it was new). It greatly improves from the first DKL in every way. The secrets are better hidden, there are a lot more secrets to find, the bonus games are fun, there is a greater variety of enemies, the bosses are cool, etc. The main reason this game is so good is because of its fast paced gameplay. You will always find yourself moving, jumping, dodging, or something else. There is always a bit of action going on.

Sometimes you don't control Diddy or Dixie throughout the whole level. You might find yourself controlling one of your animal pals, Rambi the Rhino, Squitter the Spider, Squawks the Parrot, Ratty the Rattlesnake, and Enguarde the Swordfish. All the animals have something unique about them, and add to the variety of this game.

    Sound: 10

I love the music of this game. It fits the mood of each level very well, and the boss music is addicting. It's probably my favorite soundtrack out of any GB or GBC game. The sound effects are great too, but with the great music, who cares?!

    Lasting Value: 7

The only downside to this game is that when you beat it completely, you beat it. There is nothing else to do. Beating it 100% may take you a while though. You will have to find all the bonus games and all the DK coins. Then you'll have to beat the challenging Lost World.

    Bottom Line

Another great game to add to the GB/GBC library. Take caution though: if you've gone through the entire game of Donkey Kong Country 2 for the SNES, you may find this repetitive. I didn't, but maybe you will. I'd say take the chance if you can find the game though.

For those of you who have never played any version of this game, it is great and I recommend you go find a copy as soon as possible.

Final Score: 9 out of 10 (This is not an average)
