Why was this place started?
The
reason I started this Nintendo page, and a bit of
history too.

So you may be
asking yourself, why did I start this site? Ok,
so you're not asking that. But still, it's not
like Nintenews is popular or anything yet. Heck,
43% of the people on a recent poll hate it.
Obviously it can't be because I wanted it to
become the best on the net. So, why did I start
it?
Back on February
4th of this year I started taking a computer
class that started out teaching us basic HTML. I
really didn't get a whole lot out of it, but it
did start me with the site. I wanted to have fun
with the project so I made the site about
something I liked. That ended up being Nintendo.
February 10th was when I had a few pages up, and
then a week later I launched a page. It is mostly
taken down, but you can take a look at the crappy
site here (though it did look a bit
better thanks to the one named DaCrazyBoy). I
expected to have maybe a hit or two a week. I was
mostly doing this for fun, because I didn't care
whether people thought it was a great site or
not. And I still don't, to an extent. It was
practically guaranteed that the page would get an
A+ for my computer class because I was the first
one to put frames on the page (not there anymore)
and was having to help the rest of the class get
them on their sites. So I wasn't working on the
page for the grade either. Like I said earlier,
it was just for fun.
Eventually the
site ended up growing with the help of Daniel and
Jorden (and a little later SDB_Freak) and people
actually visited the site. Hairball of Super Mario 64 Central gave me tips, and pointed
me to his friend Smiley who was re-opening the
Nintendo Network. He hosted Nintenews and ended
up giving me a new design too. I think the date
the site officially moved there was March 24th,
but I'm too lazy to check. Even though we had
moved up in the world a little bit and gained
some more hits a day, the site was still being
run for fun and not popularity.
Soon, problems
occurred. The server would always go down and
take the site with it. It seemed everyday the
site would be down and I wouldn't be able to
update when I wanted so eventually the updates
got shorter and shorter. This started to take the
fun out of it and now was becoming a hassle. I
didn't let it bother me too much though, and just
waited for things to get better.
A little over a
month ago it was said Smiley was giving up
Nintendo Network because he didn't have the time
to update (as seen since almost a month went by
between updates once) and Hairball said I should
ask for it. Eventually I did and a couple weeks
later it was said to be mine. I ended up keeping
it Nintenews so I knew it was still my site. When
the move ended up being completed, I realized
that the same goal was still intact even though
we were at our own domain now (though we don't
really own it), that I was still in this for fun
as is everyone else. The site hasn't gone down
since then and hits have increased. Do I care?
Not yet. Maybe in the future I will, but I'm not
ready to care yet. I do have one major goal for
this site though. That is to get all of us staff
members to E3. I've seen other independant sites
make it so why can't we? Of course it may be a
couple years but I still plan to be running the
site then.
While we are
having fun running the site, if we happen to keep
your informed, or help you in anyway with your
decision on a game, or give you something to read
for a while, that helps us too.
