The Cordillera Region

The cordillera region spans most
of B.C., the Yukon, and portions of Alberta and the Northwest Territories. It is the home of many mountain ranges
and valleys such as the Rocky Mountains, Columbia Mountains, Fraser Delta and Okanagan Valley. Summers are cool, winters are mild and
precipitation is greater on the west side of the mountains. The interior
regions have more extreme temperatures. The cordillera region was originally
inhabited by 7 First Nations and is currently inhabited by Canada’s 2nd larges aboriginal
population of 200 different groups. After World War II when the CPR was
finished immigrants came for a gold rush in 1858. This region is known for its
forestry, fishing, dairy and fruit farming and mining. The cordillera region is
also known for its tourist attractions.
