Samus: the space age Joan of Arc

Samus made her first video game appearance in the original "Metroid" for the NES and was released in 1986. Her goal in the game was to eliminate the "Mother Brain", leader of a gang of space pirates. The game took place in the deep underground maze of planet Zebes. The space pirates plan is to harness the power of an alien being known as a Metroid. Samus's next video game appearance was in the sequal to Metroid, called "Metroid 2: the Return of Samus" for the NES and was released in 1991. This game takes place a long time after the original, and takes place on the home planet of the Metroids, SR-388. In this game, Samus must destroy all of the Metroids on the planet, including the Metroid Queen. After her battle with the Metroid Queen, a tiny Metroid egg hatches, and attaches itself to Samus, and helps her escape the crumbling, unstable planet. Once she had escaped, Samus turned the Metroid hatchling over to the Galactic Acadamy for testing. Samus's next game was called "Super Metroid" for the SNES, and was released in 1994. In this game, Samus found herself returning to planet Zebes in search of the Metroid hatchling that was stolen from the Galactic Academy by the space pirates. During the fight with Mother Brain the lost Metroid hatchling sucks the life forse out of Mother Brain and transfers it to Samus's weapons, so that Samus can destroy Mother Brain. After the destruction of Mother Brain, the Metroid dies, and Samus escapes the planet before it explodes. Samus's next appearance was in the game "Metroid Fusion" for the GBA (Game Boy Advance) and was released in 2002. This game takes place shortly after "Super Metroid". With the destruction of the Metroids, the food chain was disrupted on planet SR-388. The Metroid's key source of food, virus parisites known as X, are multiplying faster than a calculator. These parasites quickly took over Samus's research station that was orbiting SR-388. Samus's main goal in the game is to reclaim the research station, and destroy as much of the X virus as possible. Nintendo also released another Metroid game in 2002, called "Metroid Prime" for the GCN (Nintendo Game Cube). This game took place after the first Metroid game, but before the second. As Samus fights on planet Zebes, she discovers a space pirate ship on the surface. She tracks this ship to a planet called Tallon 4 and discovers a massive space pirate research operation. She then learns that the space pirates are planning to rebuild their army. Her objective is to destroy the facility, and stop the space pirates' army from rebuilding. That ought to satisfy your Metroid hunger for the next 50 years.
