This region is made up of two small areas in Ontario and Quebec. This region contains rich soil that was left behind from the last Ice Age. The summers here are warm and humid, and the average annual amount of rainfall is about 875mm. The Algonkins and Iriquois lived in this region until about the 17th century when the French came to settle here. Today, most of this area's population lives in cities, mainly Toronto and Monteal. This region is also the most populated and most multicultural region in Canada. Manufacturing of goods, such as iron, steel , clothing and automobiles are a large part of this reigion's income, as well as mechanized agriculture.
