I don't think this series in general is like starfox or metroid but it does have character relations hence why I put those series in the related series section of this page.

The relation to metroid is small Captain Falcon and Samus are both Bounty Hunters.

The Connection to starfox is they both have a character called James McCloud although the F-Zero James is human his hair looks like Fox's ears and the character James has a son and wife who need him and Fox has a missing father.
F-Zero is a racing series set in the future. The main character is Captain Falcon. Although Captain Falcon is the main character you can race as others such as his Rival Samurai Goroh and his speculated Love Intreset Jody Summer.

The series as a whole sticks to the same storyline and is consistant with characters, the controls stay the same but are refreshing and fun each time.
