At the start of Majora's Mask, Skull Kid curses Link by turning him into a Deku Scrub, but once you get your ocarina back and warp back to day one, the Happy Mask Shop man will return you to your former self, teach you the song of healing, and you'll get to keep the Deku Mask. When Link puts on the Deku Mask, a painful metamorphosis takes place, and he transforms into a Deku Scrub and gains some cool new powers and some not-so-cool weaknesses. As a Deku Scrub Link can trade things with Deku Scrubs who wouldn't talk to him as a human. Link also gets some special powers while wearing the Deku Mask; he'll be able to launch himself out of flowers and glide through the air, and he'll also be able to fire bubbles from his snout, execute a spinning attack and hop across water. As a Deku Scrub, Link gives his ocarina a rest and pulls out a huge set of horns to play his songs on. Now for the disadvantages, being made out of wood means that Deku Link will not be able to touch fire or lava, or else he'll be sent back to the start of the room or map. Also after doing his little Jesus impersonation (walking on water, well hopping 5 times really), if he isn't on dry land he'll fall in and the same thing will happen as when he touches fire. |
