Risks

Why are many people not convinced that marijuana is the best solution to control various medical symptoms?   There is very little (if any) evidence of long-term effects of marijuana use, and the carcinogens produced by smoking any substance can be potentially fatal.   Another effect of marijuana use is the ‘feeling of high’, a psychoactive effect associated with the drug.   There is a potential concern for psychological and physiological dependency to the drug as a result of this effect. Finally, cannabis use can not be made to conform only to medical boundaries.  Marijuana use may be incompatible with the realities of human need, with no distinction between medical and non-medical use.  Once decriminalization exists, there is simply a danger for the misuse and abuse of the drug, since people may tend to use it for other purposes.
