The History of Medicinal Marijuana Use

Over the last thirty years researchers have come to recognize that there is limited medicinal value in marijuana. (Slade, D.,2001) In the past few years as the use of marijuana has increased, people with chronic illness have noticed that they are able to function better when using marijuana. Many have experienced decreased side effects to traditional medications and experienced fewer complications. This has raised the question to physicians and health care providers that there may be benefits to using marijuana in treatment of palliative care clients and those with chronic illness. Marijuana use has a long way to go to become accepted within the medical community however it is starting to become recognized as a possible alternate therapy.
