Bush declared war about ten o'clock last night. Let the glorification and killing begin.
At about eight last night we(my parents, aunt Charette and I)were watching Survivor (!), when we started noticing an excessive ammount of planes overhead. They were RIGHT above our houes and extremely loud. I turned to my dad and said "they're probably takin' a ride to Iraq." Just then the phone rang, it was Caroline calling about having me babysit. We talked about the strange ammount of plane traffic. After a couple of minutes of tossing theories around about what the planes could be doing we got off the phone. JUST THEN it flashed across the bottom of the television screen: 7 Cubans hijancked a plane and it was forced to land in Key West, Florida...the airport is very close to my house..Cuba is very close to my house..(90 miles)
In other news, of a smaller sort, I am reading a Stephen King book that was written specifically to be made into a movie. It is interesting, too, because I feel like I am just watching the movie in slow motion..usually when you read books that were made into movies you find all kinds of neat little details that couldn't be conveyed in a movie..that is not the case with
The Green Mile. I like it though.
Isn't it terrible that I can go from talking about war.... and seven Cubans risking their lives to live in a decent country.. to a book commentary? We as people are nothing more than ants..we watch others die and keep right on trucking.
It is like my tour guide in Europe said: when someone throws themselves in front of the subway the people immediately moan about the fact that they will be late in getting to their destination. Nobody contemplates the fact that someone found this world too miserable to live in for even another second. Likewise with war. We hear about it. We protest it. We think its terrible...but even then, do we, CAN we, really comprehend it? I don't think so. What is really tragic is the people who know what war is really like are the same people declaring it. Then again Bush pulled a year long dissapearing act during his time in the military..probably to drink?..so he is no expert.
