Tuning up you used Jeep or car
Dirty Bad Air Filter
Okay, I'm no Auto Mechanic, but I know how to tune-up a car, and I have a general understanding of how automobiles work.  You can too, just read a Hayes or Chiltions book.  But, I think that you will find this page to be a great help to you if you have just purchased a Jeep, or have never tuned it up before.
Things to do.
1.  Change your oil!! You need a oil filter, oil, oil filter wrench, STP oil Treatment.
2. Change you Spark plugs, Distributer cap, Plug Wires, and Rotor.
3. Change all the filters you can. Especially the Air Filter and the Fuel Filter. And Check all your Fluids.
4. Clean or better yet replace your PCV valve.
5. Clean Your Throttle Body.  Chances are that its never been cleaned, it will run better afterwards. Click Here for a great article about it from Cherokee America
6. This is pretty importent, if you have 4X4.  Drain and clean your Differentials, Make sure you have all the gear oil and gaskets before you start this project.  And remember to dispose of your old oil properly. Here's a good link to changing your gear oil from Cherokee America
7. Check your tires for ware if they need to be replaced, REPLACE THEM.  Also make sure that they are secured to your vechial before you drive anywhere you wouldn't want them to fly off your car, especially if you've only had it for like 3 days.
8. Check all your lights and fuses, replace them if needed. Check the charge on your battery see if it's good. Should check the horn too while your at it, just to make sure it's still there and stuff..
9. Check your anti-freeze with that little ball gage thingy, and if you can't see the balls cause your fluid is all sludge, you should propably replace the fluid, might even consider flushing your system.
10. Finally, Check your U-Joints, and use your grease gun on all your u-joints, and body mounts that require greasing.
Helpful TIPS
Here's a couple of tips for you too.  If your valve cover is plastic, I(just an opinion) would get a new shiney aluminum one.  If your valve cover leaks, take it off, scrape the gasket and replace it with a good one(the gasket that is).  Buy 2 or 3 cans of brakekleen and clean everything.  Buy a spray bottle of Castrol Super Clean Degreaser and spray the piss out of everything, let it sit for a couple mins. and wash it off, this will help you to find leaks if you have any. Clean your tools when your done, they will last longer.  Invest in strong Hand soap.  Buy a can of car wax and use it. USE DIELECTRIC-GREASE on your spark plugs, it works.
