(He's a DJ in Burbank every afternoon; we listen to the webcasts over the computer) While we were in
the restaurant, I called the radio station and asked to talk to him. Iexplained to the "phone girl" that we
were downstairs eating and wantedto meet Ryan after his shift, so she put me on hold.
A couple minutes later Ryan came on the line, "Hi, is this Angela and Debi?" It was all I could do not to drop the phone. lol I don't even remember what I said, but Ryan asked me where Debi was, so I gave her the phone to say hi to him. Then I started talking to him again and explained that we were on vacation from
the Bay Area, happened to be eating dinner downstairs (riiiiight, just a coincidence *wink*), and wondered
if he could come down and say hi after he was off the air. He was totally cute saying, "You came all the way from the Bay Area to eat here?!" lol He and his co-host Lisa joked around about the restaurant and how they eat there all the time. Anyway, we talked for a minute or two and then he told me to hang on and put me
on hold again.
I don't know how many of you have ever been on hold with a radio station, but the "hold" music IS the radio station, so you can hear everything that's on the air. As I'm waiting on hold, all of a sudden I hear Ryan say, "Hi, is this Angela and Debi?" I almost dropped the phone again. lol He played the whole conversation on the air, and Debi listened to it over the phone. (maybe she remembers more of it than I do, I'm blanking)
After a looooooooong time on hold, the phone girl came on again. She said that Ryan wouldn't be able to get back to me but that he gave her a message to give me. Apparently he said that he had some things to do
after his shift and he wasn't sure when he'd be leaving. I asked the girl if it was a brush off, cuz that's what it sounded like to me, and she was like, "No no no no no, he just doesn't know what time he's going to leave." So I asked her if it sounded like we had a chance or if we should just forget it and go, and she said
that we should hang around. So we did.
Ryan's shift is over at 7, but sometimes he's on the air a little longer. Since we couldn't listen to the station, we didn't know when he went off the air. So we just sat in the restaurant waiting and watching the door.
I was getting more and more nervous. Around 7:45 we decided to go out to the lobby instead.
(the restaurant is right next to the lobby) Then I called the radio station again to see if Ryan was still upstairs.
I talked with Skip Kelly, the DJ who comes on after Ryan, and he told me that Ryan left at 7:30.
MAJOR MAJOR BUMMER.
Ryan skipped out without seeing us. If we had been in the LOBBY rather than the RESTAURANT,
we probably would have seen him.
At first I was really disappointed and pretty pissed off. We were RIGHT THERE!!! But Ryan still makes me laugh and he's still adorable, so it's hard to stay mad at him. (my god, I'm talking like I know him lol)
Now I'm more disappointed in myself than anything because with all of the celebrity hunting that I've done,
I should know better than to wait around like that. We overestimated him and thought HE'D come to US,
but we should have been more aggressive and waited right outside of the elevator.
On a more positive, strange tangent, I emailed Skip Kelly (the night DJ) to thank him for being so nice on the phone that night. We talked for a long time and he was a total sweetheart, asking me about teaching and our vacation and everything. Well, yesterday he wrote back to me and said that he told Ryan that HE went downstairs to meet us and that we were babes who looked like underwear models and that Ryan totally missed out. lmao Skip's my new best friend!
So that's the Ryan Seacrest story -- not really an encounter, but I talked to him on the phone, so that's kinda cool. And we ALMOST met him, so so so close you have no idea. But now I'm more determined than ever to meet him. It was easy enough to find him and make contact; now I just have to finish the job!
