Rainbow Bridge
This is a story I found a while ago and thought was really special.
Why Rats Are Only With Us A Short While
One day, some angels went to God and asked if they might spend some time on Earth,to learn and perhaps to teach. He answered that some of the people might be frightened of the angels, that His children's idea of beauty might not be His own. The angels replied that maybe those who could look past the differences deserved the blessings that they could give. But God was still concerned. The angels needed Heaven's air to breathe; they would suffocate down on Earth. The angels promised to hold their breath as long as possible, and would return when they could not hold it any more. God agreed and sent down the angels.
Many people were frightened of these creatures, despised them, and tried to kill them in large numbers. However, the few who recognised the angelic qualities in the beings took them in and sheltered and fed them. In return, they recieved more joy and laughter than they could possibly imagine. But alas, soon the angels could hold their breath no longer. After just a short time on Earth, they left to go back to Heaven. But they were sure to tell the next group of angels exactly who to seek.
Trio ?/05/97 - 27/11/99
Trio was my first rat, a Black Hooded Doe. She was very friendly and loved to explore my bedroom. When she got tired of being out she would climb on to the bed, then on to the table at the end of it and into her cage. Her favorite treats were polos and spaghetti loops.
Milo ?/09/99 - 16/11/00
I got Milo after Trio died, a Black Hooded Buck. He could be a bit grumpy sometimes but was more laid back than Trio and liked to sit on the sofa with me and watch tv. Sadly he was just over a year old when he died.
Pootle ?/09/00 - 20/01/03
I got Pootle after Milo, another buck. Pootle was a very sweet rat and very cuddly. When he was younger he loved to be out and to explore, but when he got older, especially the last 3 or 4 months of his life he would just sit on your knee and be stroked. He was the first rat I ever saw boggle!
When we got Astro and Hashi, we tried to introduce them to Pootle, but as he had been on his own most of his life he didn't get on with them. He was a real people rat and loved attention.
Astro 04/06/02 - 12/03/04
Astro was one of the first rats we got when we started going to the Yorkshire Rat Club. He lived with Hashi and Zumi and was the boss of the cage from the start! Sadly he died very suddenly after being ill for only a few days.
He used to love to come out of the cage and explore and would eat anything you gave him, especially if it was chocolate!
