Chapter Two:

The Feeling

--------------------------------------

New Zealand

Today was one of those rare and beautiful days. Ever since that volcano had erupted, most of the days had been cloudy and warm with steam and wet rain. But today was different. People flooded the warm beaches of New Zealand, laughing and playing and simply enjoying life.

While it lasts, thought the longhaired girl who’d been sitting in a shaded Café on the beach. She took a sip of her soda and cast a spiteful gaze out through shaded sunglasses on the beach.

The girl felt like a cut out of the world, like someone had used the wrong cookie cutter when they made her. The girl wanted to go out and have fun too, but as much as she wanted, another part ripped and tore at her, saying no!

That side of her feared and disliked sunlight, and not only because she was photosensitive. Something about the sun made her feel miserable, and heated, and trapped. She knew it was silly, and everyone thought it was odd, but it was how she felt and she couldn’t change that

So she sat in the Café sipping her soda while everyone else played and had fun. A waiter walked up to her casually, and asked if she wanted anything. The girl looked up at him but didn’t say anything. The poor guy just stared back unsure what to do to escape her capturing glare.

The girl let him of the hook, "I’ll just have a cheeseburger," she said with such simplicity it was haunting. The waiter staggered a little as he left, he felt as if he’d been influenced by some kind of power of strength, but couldn’t quite place it.

It was beyond his comprehension, though, that the girl he had encountered was more powerful than he believed. Ever since the girl was young, she had grown up with no parents, and had been shifted from time to time through various foster homes. Each had been rather neglectful towards her and left her with plenty of time to think; and strengthen her mental powers.

The girl could see things from both the past and the future. She could limitedly read peoples mind and souls. She could see things beyond the sight of the human eye; things that were deeper down.

She had never been able to explain why she could do this; she had so little information of her past that even if she did know it would be unimportant. All she had ever known was that her parents had died in the eruption of Okibi, but that was all.

But every night, before she fell asleep, there would be a special longing somewhere within her. Like there was some place drawing her towards it…she had vowed to someday find this place; find it and discover her past.

Suddenly a light twang hit the side of her head. Or rather no the side, but the inside. The girl gasped and brought her hand to her head. She looked out at the bright and cheerful beach.

Was this some side affect that went along with her photosensitiveness? She wondered silently. As the twang died down to nothing she settled back, though was still wary. As the waiter returned with her freshly cooked cheeseburger, another and sharper pain came over her.

She gritted her teeth in pain and held her head in her hands. The waiter looked at her concertedly and asked, "Are you okay?"

The girl held up a hand, aware that the pain was fading once more, "I’m fine." She said calmly. The waiter looked at her with concern once more, but turned and left.

It was not a moment later that another stab of pain hit her far more violently. The pain thrashed inside her head and she cried out softly. Suddenly her vision began to swim and she had to fight to stay in consciousness. But in the end, she lost the battle, and everything faded to black.
