'Charmed' Producer Explains New Character

Enter Paige Halliwell -- the long-lost younger half-sister of surviving siblings Piper and Phoebe. Kern plans either a two-part season premiere or a two-hour single episode, to air in late September, to explain the new character, the secret daughter of the sisters' mother and her illicit lover, a "White Lighter".

According to Kern, Paige's newly emerged power resembles Prue's ability to move objects with her mind, but because her father was a White Lighter, she will have other abilities as well. Full Story

'CHARMED,' I'M SURE

Rose McGowan has been signed to replace Shannen Doherty on "Charmed" - confirming an exclusive story first reported by The Post last week.

McGowan has starred in the movies "Driven" and "Monkeybone" and recently broke off her relationship with Manson, the goth-rocker known for wearing makeup and women's clothing.

There's no word yet on what McGowan's character will be named, although it's a good bet that her name will begin with the letter "P" - since all the female "Charmed" characters (Prue, who was played by Doherty; Phoebe, played by Milano; and Piper, played by Combs) begin with that letter. McGowan Is Charmed to Step in for Doherty

Actress Rose McGowan is negotiating to replace Shannen Doherty in Spelling Television's hit TV drama "Charmed" at the WB network.

Sources say the witching hour is nearing and, barring a last-minute implosion, McGowan will join Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs as the third in a troika of sisters with mystical powers.

McGowan, former girlfriend of shock rocker Marilyn Manson, would play a long lost sibling the duo didn't know they had. Full Story

Feting Doherty’s un-Charmed life

The folks at “Charmed” are so happy to see Shannen Doherty leave that they’ve been throwing parties to celebrate her departure. The temperamental actress left the WB show — about three sisters who discover they have witch powers — after reportedly clashing with cast and crew members, especially co-star Alyssa Milano. Now, says a source close to the show, ever since Doherty’s left, the cast and crew members have been having “Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead” parties. Full Story

Hewitt Says 'No' To 'Charmed' Part

Jennifer Love Hewitt Rumors that "Charmed" star Shannen Doherty would be replaced by Jennifer Love Hewitt were nixed when the actress turned down the part.

Other actresses whose names have been floating around for the "Charmed" role include Tiffani Thiessen, Soleil Moon Frye and Irene Molloy. The latter actress would be an especially interesting choice since on her last show, "Grosse Pointe," she played the Doherty-like star of a "Beverly Hills, 90210"-esque teen soap. Full Story

Jennifer Love Hewitt Can't Be 'Charmed'

According to the New York Post, Jennifer Love Hewitt has said "no thanks" to replacing Shannen Doherty on "Charmed." There's no word on why Hewitt would pass up the opportunity to headline an established show, although she has been pursuing a big-screen career and perhaps felt that "Charmed" fell into the "been there, done that" category.

Notwithstanding finding Doherty's replacement, there could be additional trouble on the "Charmed" set. Holly Marie Combs, who also stars, has reportedly asked for and received a big per-episode raise - and will now be making more than Milano, the show's erstwhile star. Full Story

Survivor Reject Is No Charmer

Jerri Manthey couldn't stick it out till the bitter end on Survivor II, but she thinks she's got what it takes to join the sisterhood of sorceresses on Charmed. The departure of Shannen Doherty has left an opening for a new witch on the WB show, and TV Guide is asking its readers who would be the best choice to join Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs in the coven. The magazine says Manthey wants the role. "I'm all over it," she said.

Alas, Aaron Spelling TV doesn't think the Outback outcast is the right one to fill Prue's shoes. "Frankly, I just don't see it," a rep said. "But thank you for making me laugh." Other actresses TV Guide is suggesting to complete the Power of Three include Grosse Pointe star Irene Molloy and Jennie Garth, who co-starred as best friend and chief romantic rival to Doherty's Brenda on Beverly Hills 90210. Rumors Behind Doherty's Exit from 'Charmed'

Did Shannen Doherty leave "Charmed" over a feud with her costar Alyssa Milano? That's what an insider told MSNBC's gossip column "The Scoop," adding that the two actresses "couldn't stand to be on the set together."

"Shannen gave The WB an ultimatum: 'her or me.' Initially the thinking was that Alyssa was going to go. They were both under contract and had lawyers hashing it out until the last minute, but Shannen overplayed her hand and The WB went with Alyssa instead. She’s much better liked by the cast and staff anyway," says the insider.

In addition, a rumored romance between Milano and her co-star Brian Krause, reportedly further angered Doherty, according to the gossip columnist Ted Casablanca.

Doherty also ran into trouble on her former gig (and fellow Aaron Spelling-produced series) "Beverly Hills, 90210." Doherty was let go from a leading role on "90210" after four seasons on the show.

Officials from The WB were not available for comment. The network officially unvieled its new fall season today, and executives said they had no doubt Spelling would find a suitable replacement for Doherty. Full Story

Shannen No Longer Charmed

Shannen Doherty has mysteriously walked away from her smash WB show "Charmed" - and nobody's saying why.

"We have had a long and prosperous relationship with Shannen and we didn't want to hold her back from what she wanted to do," Spelling TV said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter yesterday.

Doherty's behavior in real life has been less than magical. She was ordered to take anger management classes in 1997 following a melee in front of a Los Angeles nightclub when she reportedly smashed a car window with a beer bottle. Last month, the 30-year-old actress pleaded no contest to charges of drunken driving. Full Story

Doherty Exits 'Charmed'

is coming back for another season on The WB but don't expect Shannen Doherty to be there. The star of the three-year old program has left the series. Spelling TV, the production company behind "Charmed," confirmed the departure Friday, but no reason was given.

Doherty was known for her attitude and temper on her previous series, "Beverly Hills, 90210," and was fired after four seasons. The character of Hunter Fallow in The WB's recent comedy "Grosse Pointe" was loosely based on Doherty, who did have a recent run-in with the law when she was arrested for drunk driving last year. She pleaded no contest to the charges earlier this month. Full Story

Doherty No Longer a Charm-er

Shannen Doherty is retiring her magical spells. The actress is leaving the WB series Charmed after three seasons, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Producers are encouraging the brunette to pursue other interests. "We have had a long and prosperous relationship with Shannen and we didn't want to hold her back from what she wanted to do," Spelling TV said in a statement. Recently, Doherty's off-screen life landed her in trouble; she pleaded no contest to DWI charges last month in California. Doherty also packed up early from her last Aaron Spelling series. She walked out of Beverly Hills 90210 after four seasons on the teen show. Full Story
