Paige
Rose McGowan as Paige Paige Matthews, the daughter of Patty Halliwell (the mother of Phoebe, Piper and Prue) and her whitelighter Sam, joined the show at the start of Season Four. Her power is similar to Prue's in that she can move things with her mind, but she also inherited the whitelighterish ability to "orb" between different planes of existence from her father.

"Charmed" producer Brad Kern says of Paige: "When we meet her, she will have been searching for many years, both for her birth parents, but also for an answer to that feeling that she's had inside of her that there's something special, there's something else that nobody has yet been able to understand and explain.

"We hope to tap into that. It's also organic to the character. She brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to a grieving family. That's going to help us be able to honestly deal with the death of Prue, as well as being able to keep the fun of the show. Here comes Paige, who suddenly has all these powers and thinks it's pretty cool."

Rose McGowan never saw herself as a hippy and after leaving home (another Children of God commune, this time in Oregon) at the age of 15, she spent some time surviving on short term jobs and even lived on the streets for a period. She eventually moved to LA to attend art school where she was "discovered" by Gregg Araki who cast her as Amy Blue in "The Doom Generation" (1995). While the film was not a huge commercial success, it did get a lot of attention and established her reputation as an actress. Her only previous screen appearance had been a small part in Encino Man (1992).

Her role asTatum in Wes Craven's "Scream" (1996) introduced her to a more mainstream audience, though she has continued to bring her unique talents mostly to independent films. Rebecca Flint of All Movie Guide says of her appearance as Courtney Shane in "Jawbreaker" (1999): "she excelled in a role that was equal parts vamp, tramp, and camp".

She was engaged for a time to Marilyn Manson, and is currently involved with Ahmed Zappa, a voice-over artist and one of the late Frank's sons.

Away from Hollywood, art is still her greatest passion. According to the Movie Thing web site: "Rose is not interested in creating but would rather be a curator and revive museums. She hates the way so many museums have become archaic and unfriendly to younger people. She dreams of opening them up so that the average person can connect to the art within."
