All snug beneath my heart you lay
As the months passed slowly by.
What manner of child I could not say
But I dreamt of the time when I
Could gently enfold
With arms meant to hold
A daughter with dreaming eyes.

**

The flowers of summer all faded away
And migrating birds flew on high.
The time crept slowly; day by day,
When I wanted it to fly
So I could see
If you would be
A daughter with laughing eyes.

*

The witches came tonight to play
As the date of your birth drew nigh.
And the goblins by my side did stay
To catch your first born cry
And envy me
When they could see
My daughter with twinkling eyes.
