ILLUSION OF TIME AND REALITY

Personal time is an illusion. We do not travel through time as we would travel through space. Time is claimed to be an experience of motion.

There was a show on T.V. once that illustrated this point. In the show the future was constantly being created by a force of workers who were always just nano-seconds ahead of us. We entered a series of sets that we lived in. A small amount of logical thinking will dispel that concept of time. The concept arises by seeing our lives from a personal angle. We put our hand on a door knob to enter a room. The room on the other side of the door becomes the unknown; a blank. We ask; is there a room that is furnished and waiting for us on the other side? Or is it being created while we wait?

Watch an ant. Doesnt it experience time also? As it travels along the path, that path can be seen all along its length by us. We in fact see the future of the ant, as well as its past, much in the same way a man on a roof sees us travel a road that stretches behind and in front of our time experience.

I agree with the Hindu concept that all is Maya (illusion). But we are illusions that live within the illusion and so it becomes very real for us and solid. This is what Einstien meant by his Theory of Relativity. Time and space being relative means that I am five feet tall in this reality because I am measured against all other things within it. We just have no way of being able to discover whether our reality is minute in the scheme of things or enormously vast beside another creation.

Our concept of time is also part of this reality. Creation of this reality is measured by the Brahmans as an almost unthinkable span. One day of Brahm being over one billion of our measured years. And there are many days' or Breaths of Brahm in their reckoning. But even they agree that this measure is against our value of time. Not Brahmas, which may be in nannoseconds of real time. That is; of the Creators time.

Our problem lies not in real time, which we have no knowledge of, but in relative time and space. All about us is a world of matter that is on the move. Each atom vibrating or dancing in or out of step and in combinations of steps to create our illusion of life. From gold to gas or sound and light all our world is an illusion of form. But this illusion is not a dream in our minds because it follows laws of form or dancing that are totally out of our control. If it be a dream it is not our dream. We are only the shadows in the dream.

Every once in a while one of us stands on this earth and contemplates the problem of how we mentally feel time or life or the stream of consciousness flowing by in our mind and wonder where time comes from and where it goes.

I experience time in three ways that are common to all of us;action, mental recording, ageing. An example of this is a hike to a large mountain. I stand here 60 miles from a distant peak. This is now. My reality is all around me, living with me in the here and now. Rocks, grass, dirt. Yet far away is the mountain. Solid and real and part of my visual here and now in time. Not a room constantly being built in my future. With my eye on the peak at 1P.M. I begin walking towards it. Half way there on the second day I stop. Time has passed for me because I have a painful memory of the experiance of each step. My watch has recorded the passage of time the way my feet recorded the distance. I look at the peak. It existed there yesterday and it will still exist when I reach it. It isnt being created just ahead of my steps. It was there a long time before I existed and will be there long after I am gone.

There is a question that nags me about those who see the future
as a stream of events I have just not reached yet. Why are there
no people in that future? No one has left a signpost for me,
saying that the mountain blew its top say, in 2132 A.D. or
thereabouts. Or is that cluster of houses I see in the distance
some one elses future? It will take me one more day to walk that
far yet already I see those houses standing in my future. When
they look at me am I coming out of the future to them? Or am I
from their past? Or are we all at the forward edge of an
expanding experiance in creation? An edge that exists in another
dimension with now all around us and only the light from
distant stars to let us know how long ago the beginning was. If
so then does that mean we are moving forward with time or are
those distant suns receeding from our time and we are the ever
present creating itself?

If we can concieve of all forms of creation having its own time
frame based on motion, at the peak of creation is the life of the
stars that form and cools into galaxies. Part of that time frame
is the flotsom that hangs around the star; planets, moon, comets.
During the life of the planet it will form upon its surface
elements such as gases and carbons and liquids like a crust of
debris. In, around and upon that debris will form life. Molds
that evolve into complicated life forms lasting thousands of
years to hundreds of seconds. Each form doubtless seeing its span
of life as the correct length of time to exist.

When seen from that perspective man is but a flea on the back of
a dog. Because other forms of life build not temples or alters we
assume they have no consciousness of themselves or creation.
Since we do build alters and worship gods we fool ourselves into
thinking this will make us more than a flea on the back of a dog
and that we will live forever as a species because we are
special.

We are not anymore special than any other form of creation. We
will be allowed to live on the dogs back only as long as we live
in harmony with him. We exist as a species because we are many.
We worry about the nature of time because we want to continue as
a species. Maybe we believe that if we can conquer time we will
find out how not to die. What then? Will life be better? Will we
automatically know what to do with all that extra time? Or will
we still go on killing each other and waste it in thoughtless
pursuits?
