Marsha Faye Billings lived a normal life up until she was 16. She played basketball on her high school squad and was thinking about college. But all those dreams were shattered on the night of March 16, 1999. While driving home from a friend's house she momentarily lost control of her vehicle, which sent her on a collision course into numerous oncoming automobiles. By the time she had come back into conciousness, she had lost her legs. What kept her optimistic she'd ever walk again was the music of The Smashing Pumpkins. She had been a fan for years, but grew a new and far deeper connection with them than she ever had before after her accident. Marsha comes from a broken home. Her parents have been divorced since she was 8 and money has been hard. In a state like Ohio it's scarce one even gets 3 meals a day on a budget like Marsha's family. When she heard that her band was breaking up she was devistated. She had to see them again. When the Metro and United Center shows were announced she was overjoyed. But her joy was short-lived. Her mother was attacked by a pack of wolves in a 7-11 on her way home for work. And Marsha missed the Ticketmaster online sale she was once waiting so patiently for.
We've always been there for our band, Now it's time for our band to be there for us. It is time for fans from all over the world pull together and make the band - and the world - aware of Marsha. As a symbol of solidity in this time of need for us all.
