Tape Grading Scale

Condition

Description

10/10 A master recorded on Super VHS tape in SVHS mode in SP speed, from excellent quality broadcast or commercially released tape in good condition.
9-9.5/10 A master recorded onto high grade / SVHS tape, or taped in SVHS-ET mode from excellent quality broadcast or commercially released tape in good condition.
8.5/10 Highest grades allowed for games taped in regular VHS mode. Must be an SP master of excellent quality broadcasts, or commercially released tapes that are in good shape. May have used non-high grade tape to record with.
8.0/10 Highest grade for best master copies (1st) and 2nd generation copies from an excellent master, usually done at SP or LP. Top notch EP masters on high grade/SVHS tapes and recorded from excellent quality broadcasts. Resolution lines are minimal and do not interfere with clarity.
7.5/10 Grading of most EP masters, and really good copies of games obtained from other traders. Clarity is still quite good. Most quality sensitive traders would be happy with a tape given this grade. Resolution lines are still minimal.
7.0/10 Picture still pretty clear. Tape will look a little softer, but still not fuzzy. Some jitter may be present, but not to detract from the tape that much. Flaws don't really stand out.
6.5/10 Tape fuzzy or not really clear. Picture is viewable, but flaws are apparent. Ghosting, jitter, other problems are not bad but certainly noticeable. Still a decent tape to watch, just one to improve a little bit.
6.0/10 Noticeably fuzzier, still viewable, but now you should consider if you really want this game or not, and how important it is for you to have it at any condition. Here the flaws become worse and border on intolerable. Anything below 6.0 you will not see on this list. If I can't enjoy it, I don't believe you'll enjoy a copy of what I can't enjoy.
