THE EMBRACE
Countless tiny feathers, the new snow falls:
   a white blanket flaoting down over the land.
   without clinging or grasping it holds onto the earth
   not letting go, even as it fades away.
Such a definition graces no dictionary's page,
   yet an embrace means all that and more.
   each person expresses it in their own way;
   drawing another in, a firm yielding hold on life.
A downward glance reveals two awkward tools
   that exude the glassy eyes
   and quivering lips as well as any face.
   such power delivered through even the frailest limb.
A picture is worth a thousand words, but
   an embrace is worth a thousand pictures;
   a gallery of emotion available
   literally, at the tip of the fingers.
A rare creature, this embrace
   like an endangered species: gone
   far too soon to really appreciate it
   and then only regrets remain.

Find it.
Get it.
Keep it.
Never let go of the embrace.
