Amusment Park, Hanoi
...unlike most of my yuppie offspring peers, I
finished high school in a pissy mood,
and hated the idea of blowing piles of money on school. Instead,
I got a job in a
garage, and spent two years trying to keep excessive amounts of my blood
off the
customers' engines. While the work was extremely honest, hard, and
gratifying, I
disliked the iron-clad hours and the routine nightly exhaustion. (what
a baby).
One night, while staring at the ceiling, I tried in vain to remember the
last time I
had read a(n entire) book. I think I quit my job that week. That
fall I enrolled at
Eastern Michigan University. The work at EMU isn't nearly as honest, however,
the
hours are up to me, and I read everyday.
During
my stay at EMU, I was fortunate enough to spend a semester traveling
through southeast Asia. Over the course of four months I visited
Hawaii, Korea,
China, Nepal, India, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. It was eaisly the
most remarkable
experience of my life. Feel free to glance at a few pictures
(may take a second),
or read a few of the letters
I sent home.
