How to keep your voice healthy When a singer hasn't slept, has a poor-diet or has too much alcohol or caffeine, it can be heard in the voice almost immediately. If you have oversung, your throat feels tired or you have a bad cold, here are a few things you can do: * Sleep: The best healer fr a tired voice. Try not to speak unless absolutely necessary. Some people try whispering but it pushes the vocal cords together in a harder way. Write messages instead. * Atmosphere: Stay in a well-ventilated room away from draughts and sudden temperature changes. Try a humidfier and keep away from smoky rooms. * Warmth: Wear a scarf around your neck. A lot of performers come off stage sweating and run out into the cold in their flimsy gig clothes. * Fluids: Keep up your fluid intake and steer away from ice cold or fizzy drinks. Room temperature water is best. Alcohol is OK but in moderation. * Steaming: Take a 10-minute steam, twice a day, when you are singing a lot, if your voice is tired or if you have a cold. * Diet: Eat foods with a high content, like fresh fruit and veg. Avoid dairy products as they induce phlegm, especially cheese, and chocolate. * Remedy drink: If your voice is tired, try a mixture of one teaspoon of honey, one teaspoon of lemon and a couple of slices of fresh ginger mixed together in hot water. ~More coming soon~ |
